Structural Engineer - Water & Wastewater

We are seeking a Structural Engineer to work in our Buildings department as a technical lead with a focus on our portfolio of water and wastewater related municipal projects. The Engineer will work within multidisciplinary teams alongside our process, mechanical, and electrical groups to deliver the structural engineering services. At times, depending on the nature of our workload, the Engineer may be engaged to assist our Buildings department with other types of projects, which may include municipal, commercial, residential, institutional, and industrial projects.
The engineer will be situated within our Buildings department, reporting to a Group Leader or the Buildings department Manager. The position will involve working in the office for a minimum of 3 days per week and the candidate could be situated in our Collingwood, Barrie, Orillia, Bracebridge, or Guelph office, depending on the candidate’s preference.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Preparing structural calculations, designing new structures, and evaluating existing structures
- Overseeing the production of structural drawings, developing structural repair details and specifications, preparing construction tender and contract documents
- Engaging with junior staff and drafting staff, delegating work and reviewing work
- Working within multidisciplinary teams to coordinate the structural design with the designs of other disciplines
- Serve as the project manager for the structural scope of water and wastewater projects, managing budget and maintaining schedule, as well as coordinating and communicating with the overall project manager
- Working in collaboration with other departments to respond to requests for proposals by providing structural related input and developing the structural fee estimates
- Liaison with clients, architects, building officials, municipal and provincial approval agencies to maintain and expand our client base
- Coordinate or conduct construction inspections and assist our designated contract administrator with the administration of construction contracts, including shop drawing reviews, respond to requests for information, and prepare site instructions
- Delegation of tasks to junior staff and review of work completed by junior staff
- Proactively create and build relationships with existing clients, potential clients, agencies, contractors and suppliers
- Identify project opportunities in existing and new project areas
Key Position Requirements:
- P.Eng. in the Province of Ontario
- Minimum of 8 years of structural engineering experience
- Strong working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code (Part 4 and Part 9)
- Proficiency in the design of water and wastewater structures including tanks, reservoirs, pump stations, treatment facilities, water towers, and headwalls
- Proficiency in the design of institutional, commercial, industrial and residential structures using wood, timber, steel, concrete and masonry is an asset
- Strong technical skills related to concrete design and construction and experience conducting site reviews of concrete construction projects
- Experience working on a variety of large and small project sizes
- Strong computer skills with knowledge of structural analysis and design software
- Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills
- Experience with business development is an asset
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work under minimal supervision
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
