Mission Statement

Belong Ottawa, a Community Ministry of the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa, offers support to homeless and vulnerably housed people to ensure health and well-being, nourishment, and social connection. Our programs promote equity and address barriers such as housing, food and income insecurity. Everyone who comes to our agencies will be given the opportunity to have their individual needs addressed through a variety of services unique to each program and space. Our mission is to provide safe spaces that connect people and create a community in which we foster dignity, wellness, and hope for all. 

 

Job Summary

Reporting directly to the Program Manager, the selected candidate will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness within our drop-in program. Belong Ottawa is seeking a dedicated individual to undertake cleaning duties, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for our participants. We are looking for someone who is committed to supporting our participants and programming by helping us maintain a clean space that reflects our values.

The ideal candidate would have availability between 8:00 AM and 10:00 PM, with scheduling based on operational needs and the Program Manager’s discretion.

Duties and responsibilities

 

Daily:

  • Empty all garbages and recycling.
  • Sweep and mop floors.
  • Clean mirrors and glass surfaces.
  • Thoroughly sanitize frequently touched surfaces.
  • Conduct comprehensive cleaning in restroom facilities.
  • Assist in courtyard cleanup upon request.
  • Regularly assess respite area for cleaning and waste management.
  • Prepare program space for the following day's activities.

Weekly:

  • Put out garbage and recycling in accordance with our calendar.
  • Clean the Respite space which includes vacuuming and wiping down surfaces.
  • Deep clean strategic areas in partnership with programming staff.

 

Monthly

  • Inspect fire extinguishers and fire alarms for any clearly visible concerns.

 

As Requested

  • Take down or set up program in partnership with programming staff.
  • Other duties as requested.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated skill and knowledge in custodial practices and equipment.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and how to handle cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to manage hazardous materials safely.
  • Ability to manage occasional cleanup of blood or needles - Training will be provided to ensure proper handling and safety procedures.
  • Ability to use electronic mail.
  • A level of reading, comprehension, and writing skills sufficient to understand oral and written instructions or directions and written information regarding site activities.
  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check required.

 

Work Schedule

This is a Casual/Relief position with a requirement of availability on evenings and during weekends.
