Building Superintendent

 

 

Position Description:  Ensures the church property and its facilities are tidied up for communal use.  Works closely with the Incumbent and Wardens to identify problems and set priorities for the overall operation and maintenance of the church and the upkeep of the surrounding property as outlined in Diocesan Canons, Bylaws and Regulations (CBRs).

         

General Responsibilities:

           

1.  Acts as a responsible and committed Parish leader.

 

2.  Provides information to Parish Council or through a Warden to:

  • Report relevant information to Corporation and the Property Committee;
  • Submit proposed budget numbers to Corporation for approval;
  • Monitor property expenses throughout the year, against the budget;
  • Submit an annual written report covering property, gardens and lawn to Corporation.

 

3.  Corporation may invite the Building Superintendent to attend Corporation meetings to:

  • Address the ongoing business of the parish;
  • Report on property activities.

 

4.  Facilitates two-way communications about property activities between the Corporation, Parish Council and parishioners.

 

5.  Schedules/attends meetings with Corporation, Incumbent and Property Committee members to identify problems, set priorities and determine cost for repairs and to report these findings to Parish Council.

 

6.  Keep the church building, sheds, fences and ground clean, tidy, serviceable and in good condition.

 

7.  Clean, inspect and maintain all church property including the offices, hall, washrooms and kitchen;

 

8.  Ensures gardens, hedges and lawn are maintained, walkway and steps are clear of snow and ice and the equipment is maintained.

 

9.  Receives at least three (3) quotes from contractors, ensure 'certificate of insurance' is received prior to commencing work and to be present while they are working.

 

10. Performs minor repairs.

 

11. Performs daily or weekly duties as per Appendix A

 

12. Performs preventative maintenance as per Appendix A.

 

13. Prepares budget cost as per Appendix A.

                                     

Qualifications:  Knowledge of cleaning, repairing and maintaining property.  In addition to weekdays, some work will be some evenings, Saturdays and Sundays.

 

Weekly Hours: 16

 

Compensation: $25/hour, DB Pension
