The Opportunity:

 

Reporting to the Director, Data Governance, the Data Governance Specialist is a key member of Symcor’s growing Data & Trust Office. You will be responsible for executing and continuously enhancing Symcor’s data governance program to enable data-driven business decisions and outcomes. As a trusted partner and subject matter expert in data stewardship, metadata management, and data quality, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive data governance initiatives and resolve complex data issues. You are an expert in developing, fostering and influencing relationships through exceptional communication and teamwork skills.
 

This is a hybrid role with requirements to be on site 2 - 3 days a week, providing a balance between remote flexibility and in-person collaboration.

 

About The Role:

 

  • Lead the management, improvement, and optimization of the metadata repository tool (ie Microsoft Purview) and ensure accurate tracking of data lineage
  • Training of staff on tool usage, provide recommendations for tool enhancements, and manage upgrades or changes as necessary
  • Create and implement a robust data quality management framework that ensures data accuracy and integrity across systems
  • Operationalize and perform root cause analysis and recommend remediation strategies
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with data governance policies, standards and regulatory requirements by leading the resolution of complex governance issues that span multiple business areas.
  • Conduct data access, data privacy, and retention audits
  • Generate reports and track policy adherence across business units identifying areas for improvement
  • Oversee the data ownership and stewardship function to ensure data is properly managed and accountable within the organization

 

 

What You Need to Succeed:

 

Education:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Data Management, or a related field, or equivalent education and work experience.

Experience:

 

  • 5+ years of experience in Data Governance, Data Quality Management, or a related data management function
  • Proven experience with data governance frameworks, tools (ie Purview, Collibra, Informatica) and metadata management
  • Strong track record of leading cross-functional data initiatives and resolving complex data issues
  • Knowledge of industry standards and data management frameworks (ie DCAM, DAMA)

 

Skill requirements:

 

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels, and drive collaboration
  • Knowledge of data governance tools and technologies, metadata management platforms, and advanced data analysis tools
  • Ability to analyze complex data issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement effective solutions
  • Proactive problem-solving skills with the ability to address complex issues and implement long-term improvements
  • Familiarity with data privacy regulations, and the ability to ensure compliance with governance practices
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with proven experience in relationship building, influencing, and partnering with both business and technical teams
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to flexibly multi-task
  • Ability to produce measurable business results while working under time constraints
