The Opportunity
The OpenShift SRE is a highly technical, individual contributor role within Symcor’s technology department, focusing on Red Hat OpenShift, an enterprise Kubernetes platform. As part of a dedicated team that develops and operates OpenShift, this person will work closely with the Team Lead, Platforms, to design, implement, and maintain scalable, resilient, and secure OpenShift solutions. This role involves hands-on expertise in designing and managing OpenShift clusters at an infrastructure level, ensuring seamless scalability and operational excellence.
The OpenShift SRE will play a key role in developing automation software to provision, upgrade, monitor, and heal Symcor’s OpenShift clusters. This person will also take part in incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement efforts while leading engineering initiatives. By balancing development and operations work, the OpenShift SRE will contribute directly to Symcor’s success in the rapidly growing Kubernetes-as-a-Service (KaaS) market.
This is a hybrid role with requirements to be on site 2 - 3 days a week, providing a balance between remote flexibility and in-person collaboration.
About The Role:
- Install, configure, and maintain OpenShift clusters.
- Improve OpenShift infrastructure (while using Network Policies/quotas/readiness probes/RBAC/GitOps)
- Troubleshoot OpenShift cluster issues
- Work on initiatives that target OpenShift as their platform, building and delivering compliant OpenShift solutions.
- Collaborate with Team Lead, Platforms to coordinate project deliverables to convey infrastructure requirements, plan, and schedule deployment of tasks and resolve any issues that impact the deployment of the Application delivery systems.
- Be responsible for the success of technical project delivery/work product.
- Provide configuration and support in scaling and managing OpenShift services.
- Provide ongoing support of OpenShift environments and infrastructure related issues.
- Function as a Subject Matter Expert for OpenShift
- Install and upgrade OpenShift
- Use a Git-based workflows (Argo CD, Ansible, GitLab)
- Install and configure various OLM operators (Logging, ACS, Elasticsearch, Portworx, Crunchy, Compliance and others
- Design technical infrastructure needed to support the newly upgraded system and coordinate its installation, and integration.
- Prepare and help team in all phases of analysis and design for applications, system, hardware, and programming activities; should have good understanding of project architecture.
- Drive significant technology initiatives across all aspects of the development (design -> deploy -> support)
- Use project’s best practices and coding standards.
- Review and Perform software updates, peer code reviews, testing, and Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) analysis; respond to security threats.
- Identify single points of failure and other high-risk architecture issues; propose and implement more resilient resolutions.
- Design and write automation software to provision, upgrade, monitor, and heal OpenShift clusters.
- Provide ongoing support of OpenShift production and non-production environments.
What You Need To Succeed:
Education:
- 4-year degree (preferably in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, Mathematics, or similar).
Experience:
- 10 + years of experience in IT
- 3+ years hands-on experience in building, designing, and maintaining OpenShift based environments and applications.
- 4+ years of hands-on technical working experience in the use of configuration management and automation tools.
Skill Requirements:
- Expertise in OpenShift, Kubernetes and Red Hat Virtualization
- Experience in DevOps tooling and processes
- Knowledge of Pure Storage and Crunchy Data
- Expertise in most of the following: Ansible, git, Docker, Kubernetes, shell scripting
- Expertise in delivering hosted cloud/private cloud services, with Kubernetes and with containers on Linux.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot systems issues quickly and accurately.
- Experience with continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) tooling, monitoring and change management.
- Knowledge of cloud and private cloud architecture and design patterns
- Experience in Red Hat Linux administration
- Familiar with Agile methodologies, Test Driven Development
- Excellent communication and people skills.

- Strong knowledge of software development life cycle
