This position is presently located at the St. Thomas or Woodstock site.
This position is anticipated to extend from May 2025 to August 2025, subject to availability of work and funding.

This opportunity provides a chance for the successful individual to apply their learnings, knowledge and skills in contribution to a growing and maturing Emergency Management & Preparedness Program. In addition to learning from our public health team, the successful individual will be offered the opportunity to positively influence and gain hands-on experience related to Emergency Management & Preparedness Program development, related data collection and analysis, identification and application of leading practices, evidence, and report writing.

Responsibilities are, but not limited to,

  • Development and launch of a robust Exercise Program, including development of polices, procedures, playbooks.
  • Programs Internal and External Awareness Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Management Programs
  • Development of public health risk assessment framework leveraging leading practices in the professions of Emergency management/business resilience planning. 

The successful candidate will:

  • Currently enrolled in a master's program in Emergency Management and Business Resilience Planning or Public Health.

  • Have a fundamental understanding of emergency management/ business resilience exercise program design, facilitation and evaluation.
  • Have the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with others in a mentored team setting.
  • Demonstrate ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in an environment of competing demands.
  • Have excellent computer skills specifically in the utilization of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Power Point Skills.
  • Possess effective and proven research abilities with the ability to synthesize information for a broad audience.
  • Must be capable of establishing positive interpersonal relationships and able to work as an effective multidisciplinary team member.
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Have excellent organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Have a commitment to self-reflection, professional growth and development.

Terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Employment Agreement. 

Salary Range: $20.00/hr (70 hours in a two-week period).  

Will receive vacation pay each pay period.

A criminal reference check completed within the last six (6) months from a Canadian Police Information Centre (CPID), inclusive of vulnerable sector screening, will be required of the successful candidate. 

Immunization Requirements: Fully vaccinated against COVID-19, are able to provide proof of immunization, and acknowledgement to follow Southwestern Public Health's policies and processes related to COVID-19 management in the workplace.
