What can you expect?
Gondola Mechanic Apprentices are in a visible role and provide an outstanding experience for guests via the safe, efficient, dependable operation and maintenance of the gondola. Mechanic Apprentices are focused on safety, efficiency, and being approachable and courteous always towards lift passengers, and coworkers while assisting senior Mechanics in their inspection and repair duties. Gondola Mechanic Apprentices report to the Gondola Maintenance Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor, and work under the guidance of other senior personnel in Maintenance or contractors. They liaise frequently with most Mountain Operations and Maintenance departments.
This job might be right for you if you think you would really enjoy:
Assisting in all maintenance duties while always maintaining and contributing to a safe and efficient work site e.g., operating lifts, lift inspections, disassembly, assembly, troubleshooting and cleaning of equipment and worksites, loading and unloading or passengers.
Administrative and Reporting Responsibilities:
- Completing documentation e.g., daily checks, assigned logs, daily reports, maintenance logs, inventory counts, worksite inspections, safe work plans.
- Communicating unusual operating conditions e.g., mechanical, operational, environmental.
- Communicating and adhering to company initiatives and policies, relevant legislation, and manufacturer guidelines e.g., OHS, Z98 code, Employee Handbook.
- Timely and accurate reporting of all incidents and deficiencies to appropriate departments/personnel.
Other duties may be requested and assigned from time to time.
And you have:
- Active trade Apprenticeship with ski industry experience.
- Valid Alberta vehicle operator’s licence.
- Must be positive, mature, and friendly attitude along with being neat, alert, punctual and dependable.
- Willing/able to perform all duties or departmental tasks.
- Prepared to work flexible schedules e.g., weekends, holidays, nights, extended hours.
- Prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions e.g., appropriate footwear, layers, gloves.
- Calm under pressure and patient.
- Communicate effectively in English, both written and verbally and work in a confidential capacity.
- Maintain professional conduct when acting as a company representative on or off duty.
- Effectively provide training, support, and assistance to coworkers.
- Attend and actively participate in meetings and training.
- Effective and timely team transport with company vehicles as required.
- Own a basic set of tools appropriate for the position.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products e.g., Excel, Word.
Additional considerations:
- Employees must always be of sound mind, exhibit good judgment, and report to work fit for duty.
- Requires standing for long periods of time, constant trunk rotation, frequent lifting, pushing/pulling of equipment, parts, and tools (up to 45 kg). Routinely climb inclined stairs up to 5m or occasionally climb ladders up to 40m, work at heights, hike and move around in an alpine environment.
- This role maintains/operates machinery, heavy equipment, off road/highway vehicles, and works around moving equipment.
- This role maintains and operates hand/powers equipment e.g., tools, equipment, rigging.
- Candidates may be required to provide their own transportation to the resort base.
- Candidates are required to provide and maintain CSA approved safety footwear.
- Required uniform pieces (liner, jacket, pants, toque/hat, collared shirt, polo) are provided.
- This role has some exposure to industrial chemicals e.g., solvents, oils, grease.
This role is subject to all terms and conditions of the Sunshine Village Employee Handbook, Policy Manual, and the Alberta Employment Standards Code.
