The SSU Board of Directors is looking for a motivated individual to execute the duties of Director, Student Executive Team. The Director, Student Executive Team principal role is to serve as the voice of Sheridan student body, representing students’ interests and advocating for their needs, ensuring student well-being by fostering a safe and positive campus environment, ensuring an ongoing effective communication between SSU and students, articulating the positions of the organization and supporting the SSU Board of Directors, all while managing and directing the SSU executive team. It is the responsibility of the Director, Student Executive Team to support the mission of the SSU and to implement and achieve the strategic goals established by the Board of Directors to the best of the ability of the organization. The Director, Student Executive Team will be responsible to ensure that all relevant student issues are brought to the Board.

The successful candidate will have excellent leadership and communications skills, problem solving, communication, customer service, interpersonal skills, and possess a team player attitude. The candidate will be results-oriented with the ability to delegate, be flexible, work well under pressure, and have a strong understanding and commitment to confidentiality. It is important to note that this position covers a wide variety of responsibilities and will require an individual who is keenly able to adapt and respond to evolving priorities in the organization.

Responsibilities: 

Leadership and Team Management 

  • Participate in regular executive meetings and lead the executive teams.
  • Collaborate closely with the Managing Director and other key figures such as the Special Projects Coordinator, Chief Returning Officer (CRO), and various Executive Team Staff.
  • Support the implementation of strategic objectives and goals in coordination with the Managing Director.
  • Prepare for and attend all SSU Board of Director meetings as ex-officio member
  • Coordinate executive support of all Board of Directors meetings, Annual General Meetings, Special General Meetings and Elections
  • Participate in relevant college and external councils and committees and membership organizations as required
  • Develop an effective and appropriate continuity plan for the incoming Director, Student Executive Team.
  • Ensure that the outgoing executive team members provide an effective and appropriate continuity plan for the incoming executive team members.
  • Endeavour to distribute time between all campuses and ensure engagement with students.
  • Coordinate the onboarding, transition and training of all Directors, Board Retreats and all board-related professional development and activities.
  • Participate in regular meetings with the Managing Director and Senior Management Team members at the college when requested.
  • Take part in the hiring process for the executive team.

Strategic Planning 

  • Operate in alignment with the SSU's vision, values, and mission.
  • Facilitate planning activities, including retreats and strategic planning sessions.
  • Guide the executive team in setting and reviewing long-term goals and strategies.
  • Coordinate strategic planning development efforts when required.

Communication and Representation 

  • Through the Board Chair, communicate with the Board of Directors on a regular basis, and supervise their administrative support through the executive team
  • Maintain regular communication with the student body through various channels.
  • Represent student interests to the school administration and external parties as an appointed spokesperson of the SSU Board.
  • Act as the public face of the SSU, ensuring a consistent and positive image.

Policy and Advocacy

  • Develop and revise policies related to student life.
  • Advocate for student needs and rights.
  • Promote inclusivity and diversity within the student body and activities.

Event Planning and Execution

  • Oversee the organization of executive events, board workshops, and activities.
  • Coordinate with relevant teams to ensure successful execution.
  • Evaluate the impact and success of events in line with SSU objectives.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a graduating fee-paying Sheridan student with good academic standing who was enrolled in classes in the Summer or Fall of 2024, or Winter of 2025 term preceding the term in office.
  • Must be committed to full-time hours (37.5 per week minimum) based on standard operating hours and after-hours meeting.
  • Understanding of informed advocacy.
  • Demonstrated involvement in extracurricular activity at Sheridan is an asset.
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team.
  • Ability to think strategically, formulate and execute plans to meet the organization goals.
  • Will be required to travel between campuses and from time to time nationally, and to work outside of normal business hours.
  • Must be able to attend evening meetings and events as required.
  • Successful completion of background check.

Appointment Details:

Salary: $65,000

Work Location: Brampton Campus. Will need to travel occasionally to the Mississuaga and Oakville Campuses.

Hours: 37.5 hours a week for alumni (day and evening shifts required)

Term of Office: One-year term contract. May 1, 2025, to May 30, 2026 (subject to change based on availability of chosen candidate). Time of Employment - May 1, 2025, to May 30, 2026. Period of authority as Director, Student Executive Team – May 1, 2025, to April 30, 2026.

International Applicants must hold and present a valid work permit for the full duration of the contract term.

Due to the demands of this position, weeknight and weekend work may be required. Access to a vehicle is preferred.
