Senior Vice President, Finance
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Vice President, Finance will have Canadian regional responsibility for driving and managing all aspects of the finance function, including managing all relevant external stakeholder relations as well as serving as a strategic partner to the Chief Financial Officer. The SVP Finance provides counsel and strategic direction on a range of financial issues. They will play a key role in establishing the financial strategy to drive operational efficiency and enterprise value; both through organic growth and supporting M&A opportunities. They will work in partnership with the Chief Financial Officer and the Canada Leadership Team to drive continued growth and attain the company’s strategic goals, as well as providing proactive support to leadership throughout the business. The successful candidate must be able to succinctly articulate the value proposition for the business, while steering and overseeing the internal finance function for the business.
Oversees operations in BC, AB, SK, ON & QC.
Key Accountabilities:
- Accounting and Financial Reporting
- Structure, mentor and motivate an effective accounting team and culture that supports business needs, sustains performance and consistently delivers superior results;
- Establish, evaluate, and improve policies and procedures for effectiveness; implement changes to improve department performance and alignment with Company’s growth;
- Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly and year-end financial statements and management reporting packages;
- Review month-end closing activities including general ledger maintenance, balance sheet reconciliations and corporate/overhead cost allocation;
- Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors as needed; oversee preparation and support of all external audits;
- Develop and maintain internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points.
- Strategy and Executive Management
- Maintain the Company’s financial integrity and provide strong oversight of financial controls, measurements and systems;
- Work closely with the CEO, CFO and other company leaders to ensure that Sofina Foods’ long-term business strategies are supported by effective financial activities;
- Develop and prioritize capitalization strategies and manage the overall balance sheet;
- Build and lead a world-class financial team that proactively seeks opportunities to work across the enterprise to facilitate the quality of financial and operational data, as well as raise the profile of the financial function as an effective strategic partner;
- The SVP will be expected to set high standards within their team as it pertains to ethics, corporate governance and business contribution.
- Planning and Analysis
- Direct and analyze studies of general economic, business, industry and financial conditions and their long-term effect on the company’s policies and operations;
- Oversee a forward-looking financial planning and analysis capability throughout the Company, supporting the communication between operating leaders and finance team;
- Direct the analysis and development of budgets in coordination with the long-term planning function, present operating and capital expenditure budgets for review and approval by senior leadership;
- Support the detailed and actionable analysis of various business initiatives (e.g., opening new operations, mergers and acquisition, new service launches);
- Participate in strategic and business planning and in setting financial goals and objectives for the company and its functional units.
Requirements:

- Financial executive with at least 15 years of increasingly responsible management experience. Ideally, a sitting executive of a company of comparable size and complexity;
- The ideal candidate will have led the Finance function for a similarly sized business;
- Strategic, “business-driven” finance instincts and business acumen;
- Equally capable on both strategic and operational levels;
- Must have proven experience in successfully integrating acquisitions and driving synergies;
- Must have a strong track record of having built, implemented and continuously improved finance systems;
- Experience with integrating and implementing information technology systems;
- Early career foundation in accounting and control;
- MBA and/or CPA;
- Driven to succeed and passionate about business performance;
- Hands on leadership style, emphasizing coaching and caring;
- Entrepreneurial capacity, balanced with strong discipline and thoroughness;
- Balances being decisive with humility, handles difficult conversations effectively;
- Ability to communicate, conduct themselves in a manner consistent with Sofina’s core values.
