Position Summary
Based out of our facility in Georgetown, Ontario, the Distribution Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of all distribution and assembly activities throughout all Sheridan farm locations. Reporting to the Vice President, Nursery Operations, the Distribution Manager is also accountable for the presentation and upkeep of the facilities and equipment as well as the performance of the staff.
As a leader within the Nursery Operations department, you are expected to lead by example while working safely and striving to promote the best interest of Sheridan Nurseries in all aspects.
Your Accountabilities
- Manage day-to-day operations of all distribution and assembly activities, ensuring high service levels while adhering to budget guidelines.
- Implement a culture of continuous improvement through the measuring and tracking of performance metrics and ensuring accountability of all team members to the standards
- Oversee quality control for assembly, loading, and delivery processes to ensure best practices.
- Collaborate with Sales, Purchasing, and Growing departments to provide top-tier service to guests.
- Develop and manage the annual operating budget, recommend capital expenditures, and track project budgets.
- Implement new methods and procedures to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.
- Prepare reports, analyze performance metrics, and lead regular management meetings.
- Negotiate with external vendors to manage maintenance and rental costs.
- Supervise hiring and staffing within the distribution department, ensuring appropriate levels of staffing and training.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies and contribute to maintaining a safe work environment.
- Assist with other duties and projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong leadership skills, with experience driving results, motivating teams, and ensuring accountability.
- Exceptional communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing competing priorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Previous experience in distribution, shipping, or logistics preferred
- Experience in leading transformations and continuous improvement initiatives is highly desirable
- Horticulture experience is an asset, but not required.
- Valid Class 'G' driver’s license or equivalent (if driving is required for the role).
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
- This position requires extended periods of walking and standing, as well as the ability to lift 50lbs and work in various weather conditions and environments.
- Ability to work a variety of shifts/hours as seasonal peaks require, including day, evening, weekends, and holidays.
