Nursery Operations Supervisor

Permanent, Full Time

ABOUT THE JOB:

 

The Nursery Operations supervisor oversees production planning and purchasing activities, determining labor and resource requirements and general support of operations.  This role requires a candidate with experience in working in SBI or another ERP system, analytical skills, excellent organization skills and a continuous improvement mindset. The supervisor will support creating production and purchasing plans, collection of productivity data, analysis of labor requirements, general office admin and supporting the Health and Safety programs. 

 

This position reports to Manager, Production Planning and Continuous Improvement.

 

Production and Labor Planning

  • Collaborate with site leadership teams to develop annual production and labor plans
  • Coordinate transfers of plant material between facilities, according to production schedules.

 

Staffing and Onboarding

  • Support the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of all farm employees
  • Support the Seasonal Agricultural Worker program for all Nursery Operations

 

Productivity Management and Reporting

  • Lead the collection, analysis, and reporting of productivity data, including daily payroll control using Day Force
  • Prepare reports on operational performance and present findings to management

 

Health and Safety

  • Lead the execution of Health and Safety programs including defining priorities, upkeep of training programs including best practises and verifying compliance, conducting monthly audits, hazard identification, and reporting

 

Inventory and Financial Management

  • Oversee semi-annual inventory, analysis, and reporting
  • Manage purchasing activities, invoice verification, and submission, including period-end accruals
  • Assist in liner purchasing (e.g., developing codes, purchase orders, receiving, and potting entry)

Continuous Improvement

  • Oversee operational processes to improve efficiency and productivity
  • Champion Ideas in Bloom Program across Nursery Operations

Project Coordination

  • Assist in planning and executing projects, adhering to timelines and budgets

 

Communication

  • Serve as a liaison between different departments, facilitating communication and collaboration

 

Other Duties

  • Participate in additional projects and tasks as assigned to support operational goals

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:

  • This role will require flexibility to work a variety of shifts including day, evening, weekends, and holidays as seasonal peaks require.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High standard of professionalism with excellent communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple demands, setting priorities, making decisions, and exercising best judgment.
  • Experience in production and labour planning is an asset
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Resourceful and self-directed with the ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve goals.
  • Ability to adapt and prioritize multiple tasks and situations with effective time management skills.
  • Strong in the MS Office Suite programs, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • A degree or a college diploma in a related field.
  • Valid class G Ontario driver’s license.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
