Science Communicator – Overnight Camp-ins

$20.50 per hour

 

Do you fancy yourself a night-owl? This is the perfect opportunity for you! Did you know that Science North hosts overnight school groups in what are called camp-ins? Students arrive in the late afternoon and stay right until morning – what an adventure. They are treated to a full agenda of activities across the centre and with no visitors for the majority of that time they have the place to themselves to explore.  First thing in the morning before our visitors arrive they jump back on their bus and head home. May & June 2025:  Variable hours: 18 to 27 hours per week. $20.50/hr, working two to three camp-ins per week

Shifts run 12am (midnight) to 9 am and you must be available for the entire time period

Key Responsibilities

Assist the evening supervision of the camp-ins and stay up overnight to supervise the participants sleeping in the Cavern. An off-site supervisor will be available by phone for emergencies.

 

Duties include:

  • supervision of  students exploring the science centre
  • ensuring participants are ready to sleep for the night
  • remaining awake and able to assist participants throughout the night in the Cavern (teachers will also be present through the night)
  • ensuring participants are awake in the morning and serve them breakfast
  • delivering hands-on programming
  • getting students ready to meet their bus(es)
  • ensuring that the science centre is clean and ready for the school groups and visitors in the morning

 

Qualifications

  • Available from midnight until 9am (overnight)
  • Comfortable working independently
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must have first aid certification
