About SAAAC Autism Centre 

 

The SAAAC Autism Centre is a registered charity based in Toronto. The centre was founded in 2008 with the intention of empowering culturally and linguistically diverse families in need of ASD support. 

 

The organization’s mandate is to provide culturally responsive services that encourage lifelong development of children, youth, and adults with autism; empower caregivers through education, training, and peer support networks; and increase access through community engagement and knowledge sharing. 

 

SAAAC is proud to be able to deliver a combination of free and subsidized programming made possible through strong partnerships across federal, provincial, and municipal governments along with autism agencies and private donors. 

 

Your Role on Our Team 

 

We are seeking a licensed Occupational Therapist to join our growing team of allied health professionals.   

 

The Occupational Therapist will work directly with children with autism and their families, applying occupational therapy best practice guidelines and evidence-supported treatment techniques and practice frameworks in the occupational therapy sessions. 

We believe in a collaborative approach to treatment.  The Occupational Therapist will provide consultation with other professionals (e.g. behaviour analysts, teachers, and other healthcare professionals) to support interdisciplinary care. 

 

Main Responsibilities 

 

  • Provide 1:1 assessment, intervention, and evaluation for clients in the areas of: sensory processing, fine and gross motor skills, attention, emotional self- regulation, social and cognitive skills.
  • Provide consultations to families on the waitlist.
  • Evaluate difficulties functioning within particular environments (Home. School, community)
  • Advise on task adaptations and adaptive equipment to help clients with daily activities.
  • Provide families with resources to facilitate the development of skills at home.
  • Maintain current, accurate clinical records in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with the team to develop and implement a series of activities of daily living workshops and groups.
  • Engage in continuing education to ensure professional knowledge is current to provide clients with the best treatment program available.

 

Minimum Qualifications 

 

  • A Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario 
  • Registered with the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists or the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists 
  • Possess up-to-date knowledge of treatment practices within the field of autism. 
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal. 
  • Strong clinical skills  
  • Motivated to learn new skills. 
  • Ability to take care of clients with different personalities. 
  • Ability to assess client condition and work with treatment plans. 
  • Minimum 1-year of experience in pediatrics is preferred but not required.
