We are currently seeking an experienced Construction Services Manager to join our Construction Services team.
In this role, the Construction Services Manager is responsible for managing a team of Site Representatives, Contract Administrators and overseeing all aspects of provision of engineering services during construction of various, municipal, transportation and vertical infrastructure projects. The position requires strong leadership and organizational skills, extensive knowledge of construction and Health & Safety processes, and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Build, manage and lead a Construction Services group, comprising of site reviewers and contract administrators, including developing, tracking and implementing an annual business plan and multi-year strategy for growth.
- Assist with attracting talent, manage and lead the provision of site review (SR) and contract administration (CA) services for RVA projects in Ontario, Atlantic Canada and BC and promoting the expansion to provision of RVA service offerings in other markets. Collaborate on RVA’s growth and future expansion into other offices, such as Durham Region and other markets, such as the BC market.
- Liaise with existing RVA groups, including but not limited to Transportation, Municipal, Building Services, Water, Natural Environment, Water Resources, Land Development, etc., to plan and meet their needs for site reviewers and contract administrators.
- Build a team of site reviewers and a team of contract administrators to service municipal, transportation roads and structures, land development, vertical structures, tunnels and water and wastewater type projects for RVA.
- Support the RVA groups/disciplines with major pursuits and proposals. Provide input and develop engineering budgets and schedules for SR and CA services.
- During project construction, manage and/or technically support the project team and oversee projects / project performance. for various projects. Monitor and manage tasks, teams, schedules, budgets, cost control processes and project work procedures. Identify and manage project issues and risks and, if needed, enhance resolution or actions; collaborate with other offices and managers across Canada.
- RVA is currently ISO 45001 Certified. Plan and Engage in Health and Safety training for the staff of the Construction Services group, in collaboration with RVA’s internal H&S groups. As a minimum these include the annual H&S training in December of each year and the spring refresher trainings for SRs and CAs.
- Ensure projects meet the professional needs of RVA Quality Standards, including but not limited to staff training and refresher discussions or courses, regular site visits during construction (site audits), review of project deliverables and schedule.
- Help identify any risk(s) and liability exposure(s) that may arise on the projects and involve respective Project Directors and Senior Management, as required.
- Supervise and mentor site reviewers and contract administrators.
- Liaise with clients, suppliers, regulatory agencies, utility companies and contractors.
- Represent RVA in professional associations and agencies.
- Perform administrative duties as allocated including financial and staff management, leadership, staff development and mentoring.
- Perform senior CA duties on multiple projects, handle staff training and mentoring, supervision, QA review and construction site audits, handling of escalated issues, risks, problems, etc.
- Expected Utilization target of 45%
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Technologist degree in Engineering
- 15+ years progressive industry experience in a construction management role for an Engineering or Construction firm.
- P. Eng or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) designation is required
- Advanced knowledge of construction management processes, regulations and quality standards.
- Understanding all facets of the construction process, the regulations and the H&S requirements.
- Excellent time and project management skills.
- Proven capabilities in writing reports and other technical documents.
- Strong organization leadership skills and people management skills.
- Superior oral and written English communication skills.
