RVA’s Toronto office is looking to hire 3-4 full-time Engineering Designers with a passion for civil, municipal, water and wastewater engineering to join its dynamic municipal engineering group.

Projects will greatly vary, but will generally consist of water and wastewater treatment, distribution, and collection; and road, sewer, and watermain rehabilitation.  The successful candidate should be eager to learn and willing to take on a wide variety of tasks.

   Duties:

  • Assist in the design, analysis, and construction management of municipal infrastructure projects such as roadways, water distribution systems, sewer systems, stormwater management systems, and utility services.
  • Perform technical calculations and evaluations to support the design and development of municipal engineering solutions.
  • Prepare and review engineering reports, plans, specifications, and technical documentation related to projects.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including engineers, planners, and construction professionals to develop project solutions.
  • Review and interpret municipal codes, regulations, and guidelines for design and compliance purposes.
  • Assist with project coordination, site inspections, and the review of contractor progress on municipal construction projects.
  • Support in the development of cost estimates, scheduling, and project budgeting.
  • Participate in the preparation of grant applications, environmental assessments, and permit applications as required for municipal projects.
  • Continuously expand knowledge in municipal engineering practices and work toward licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Support the senior engineers in client meetings, presentations, and public consultations.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 0-4 years of relevant experience (coop/internship/work terms).
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering principles and practices, with a focus on municipal systems.
  • Familiarity with municipal design standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Proficiency in engineering software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, Hydrologic modeling software, etc.).
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work.
  • Willingness to learn and grow professionally in the field of municipal engineering.
