RVA is seeking a highly motivated and energetic Human Resources Generalist to join our HR Team. In this role, you will report to the company HR Manager and collaborate with the broader Human Resources team and management to ensure that every employee experience at RVA is exceptional. 

 

The successful candidate will have a broad understanding of human resources in a professional services environment, Employment Standards Act, outstanding attention to detail, MS Office including advanced Excel, familiarity using HR technology (Dayforce) proven ability to handle confidential matters and the willingness to accept challenges and change in a fast paced, growing, collaborative environment.

 

Duties:

 

  • Assisting with the administration of the company benefits and pension plan programs providing staff with enrollment kits when appropriate, opening online accounts, answering staff queries and providing training and troubleshooting when needed.
  • Manage the process for short- and long-term leaves of absences and determine possible accommodation and return to work strategies, coordinating with our benefit partners.
  • Work closely with management and employees to develop accommodation plans as needed.
  • Work closely with the senior talent acquisition specialist to provide effective and efficient recruiting for RVA’s professional and administrative teams.
  • Participate in the rollout and ongoing initiatives for health and safety including ISO 45001 certification and the Joint Health and Safety Committees.
  • Process worker’s compensation claims (all provinces) and facilitate back to work accommodations as required.
  • Assist management at all levels with employee relations and performance management.
  • Provide counsel and feedback to improve the effectiveness of ongoing performance, coaching and performance improvement plans.
  • Respond to employee queries regarding company policies, practices, programs and processes relating to the employee’s experience.
  • Serve as a liaison between management and employees and facilitate situations by handling questions and resolving work-related problems.
  • Facilitate performance management meetings including disciplinary actions up to and including termination and maintain documentation.
  • Examine employee records to answer inquiries and provide information for Human Resources actions and reports.
  • Engage employees social activities and ESG initiatives
  • Engage employees in diversity, equality, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Proactively stay up to date with provincial employment legislation, human rights and health and safety laws.
  • Use relevant information, knowledge of legislation and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, and human rights standards.
  • Assist with project work and change management to support a variety of HR initiatives.
  • Improve manager and employee performance by identifying and clarifying problems; evaluating potential solutions; implementing selected solution; coaching and counseling managers and employees.
  • Perform confidential investigations as directed/instructed
  • Promote HR initiatives and work with the management team to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Participate in the recruiting processes including screening of candidates, interviews and onboarding/offboarding as required.
  • Participate in the roll-out of a variety of human capital programs such as employee engagement, talent reviews, and health & wellness.
  • Assist with ongoing projects and other HR tasks as needed and assigned, as appropriate for this position.
  • Work closely with management to understand the strategic direction of the company and determine the skills and competencies required to achieve these goals
  • Establish a system of ongoing feedback from employees and leaders to ensure continuous improvement and evolving strategic priorities
  • Other duties as assigned and appropriate for this position.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • University degree or College diploma in Human Resources, Business or related field.  
  • 10 plus years’ experience in a similar role.
  • CHRP or CHRL designation is required
  • Sound knowledge of Employment Legislation, including the Employment Standards Act, the Ontario Human Rights Code, and the Human Resources best practices for various provinces in Canada
  • Broad knowledge and of human resources functions and procedures
  • Ability to handle sensitive information maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including teambuilding skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong analytical and follow up skills.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and decision-making skills.
  • Strong computer skills including demonstrated knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, Excel and web-based programs.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands and deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events
  • Ability to collaborate and deliver excellent internal client service, supporting business goals.
