A sewing machine operator is frequently required to alternate between sitting, standing, and remaining on their feet for extended periods. They must also be able to consistently lift and move items weighing up to 30 plus pounds. Fine finger motion is also required for this position.
Primary Purpose:
The sewing machine operator will be in charge of sewing different fabrics, leather or synthetic materials to produce or repair garments and on occasion other articles like SLG’s for Roots iconic leather goods. The machine operators must remain focused and diligent in performing their tasks correctly and with care to keep everything running smoothly.
As a sewing machine operator, you should use patterns, intuition, or both, depending on each task's specifications. To ensure success as a sewing machine operator, you should display an impeccable awareness of all sewing procedures. An outstanding sewing machine operator will be able to maintain and make adjustment to their machines.
- Help to produce leather goods such as jackets or other garments and occasionally SLG’s or simple handbags, according to the high standards of quality Roots is known for worldwide.
- Sew pre-cut leather and fabric pieces including, but not limited to, pockets, flaps, zippers, sleeves, and linings.
- Assess the quality of fabric or leather pieces before sewing to ensure jackets and garments are up to quality standards.
- Follow instruction from your team-lead and participate in the sewing process as part of a team to ensure all work is completed in accordance with quality standards, delivery schedules and safety requirements.
- Ensure individual and team productivity quotas are met or exceeded on a daily basis.
- Keep your sewing machine and work area clean and organized at all times.
- Adheres to all health and safety regulations and related company policies.
- Industrial sewing experience, preferably in the apparel manufacturing industry.
- Ability to use various industrial sewing machines including single needle lock stitch and post bed machines.
- Able to work well with others in a fast-paced environment.
- Fast learner with a can do attitude.
- Reliable with a good attendance record and a focus on punctuality.
- Able to work extended hours as required to meet business demands.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
