Reporting to the Shop Foreman and overseen by the Fleet Supervisor, this position is accountable for the inspection, maintenance, repairs and overhaul of equipment and vehicles owned, leased or rented by Rocky View County. The technician will work with other shop employees as well as collaboratively with other work areas to achieve the goals and objectives of the County's Business Plan and Budget. This position is not eligible for remote work.

 

Core Accountabilities

  • Responsible to carry out regular preventive maintenance and inspection programs on all vehicles and equipment to identify and reduce possible mechanical problems.
  • Willing and able to participate in “on call” as required.
  • Ordering parts needed to repair and maintain vehicles through fleet purchasers.
  • Skilled in the operation of variety of tools and equipment used in the repair of light duty vehicles
  • Preparing and maintaining accurate records and reports
  • Ability to analyze and repair mechanical failures

  • Daily maintenance records are required for all work.
  • Work in accordance with the requirements established by the RVC Health and Safety Program and the Alberta OHS Act, Regulation and Code.

  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Position Requirements

Red Seal Automotive Technician with both shop and field experience is required.

  • Perform repairs both in shop and field as required, this may include inclement weather.
  • Ability to operate and understand the use of diagnostic equipment and software applications.
  • Knowledge of internal combustion engines, transmissions, suspensions, electrical, steering, braking, and drive systems
  • Willing to work overtime in instances as requested by the Supervisor.
  • Complete equipment diagnosis
  • Exercise judgment while performing work to ensure a high quality of work is performed and potential problems are identified and repaired.
  • Ability to perform both independently or as part of a team, a variety of jobs on varied equipment and vehicles as assigned.
  • Perform assigned tasks with minimum supervision. When required consult with Foreman or Supervisor on repair projects.
  • Upgrade skills as needed to keep current with Industry Standards.
  • Perform other shop related tasks and maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Heavy lifting may be required periodically.
  • Schedule and perform repairs within a reasonable or scheduled time to keep “down time” to a minimum.
  • Adherence to internal policies and procedures is required.
  • Operation of overhead crane.
  • Basic knowledge of operation of machining equipment (e.g., lathe, drill press).
  • This is a shop environment and as such noise becomes a factor from time to time, the use of hearing protection will be required. Canadian Standards Association (CSA) approved foot protection is also required.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience of basic computer functions (log on, check emails, open and save documents in MS Office Suite) as well as basic keyboarding skills.
  • Possess a valid non-GDL class 5 Alberta driver’s license with minimal infractions.  A valid class 1 or 3 with a Q endorsement considered as an asset.
