Role Overview
UPharmacy Calgary South is a dermatology focused pharmacy. We deal with your typical pharmacy practice with an emphasized focus on skin. In this role, the pharmacist will be responsible for providing excellent customer service and ensuring patient confidentiality, handling over-the-counter products, and health-related concerns. Some responsibilities include maintaining accurate records, managing inventory, and ensuring compliance with regulations, including controlled substances. The role also involves monitoring workflow, handling special medications, and filing incident reports when necessary. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Role Objectives
The Pharmacist responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Acknowledge all customers who approach UPharmacy and offer prompt and courteous assistance
- Ensure all privacy requirements are met with each patient, including confidentiality and consent management
- Provide counselling on prescriptions, over the counter/behind the counter products and all health-related issues, including but not limited to indications, contra-indications, adverse effects, drug interactions and dosage
- Liaise with other applicable healthcare professionals within the circle of care to provide optimal patient care
- Maintain all required records and documentation in accordance with applicable legislation, standards of practice, and policies (ie. controlled records, narcotic and controlled drug records)
- Control access to the dispensary to closely monitor inventory and protect patient confidentiality
- Review and maintain workflow queues on a daily basis
- Complete regular review of “pending tasks” in accordance with standard operating procedures
- Complete regular review of inventory to identify expired product and place medication orders with wholesaler
- Ensure all requirements for documentation and control of substances under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Regulations are met and reporting to Health Canada and regulatory bodies as necessary is completed
- Ensure proper preparation, packaging, distribution and storage of all inventory including those that require special handling and training (including but are not limited to vaccines, serums, biological and other drugs and pharmaceuticals operations)
- File incident reports when any customer or staff medication or privacy incidents occur (actual, and near-misses)
- Adhere to marketing standards for all workstations and patient areas within the pharmacy; ensure pharmacy is clean and organized at all times
- Effectively communicate with pharmacy staff to ensure tasks are being completed and the team works cohesively to achieve daily objectives
- Other duties as required
Role Qualifications
- Valid Pharmacy license an ability to practice in the province of Alberta
- Injection Certification
- APA is an asset but not required
- Knowledge of Pharmacy systems such as Kroll would be an asset
- Ability to work independently and utilize creative problem-solving and decision making skills
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Exhibits a high level of professionalism and is committed to providing exceptional customer service
- Technical proficiency and strong computer skills
