RAM is a project delivery firm specializing in Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering and Advisory services across Canada. RAM is searching for a motivated and experienced individual in Vancouver, BC. The successful candidate will be an individual that enjoys a challenging, professional, and dynamic workplace and contributing to the success of a hardworking team.

Key Responsibilities 

Leadership

  • Management of the Electrical Engineering Team, including advising on training and professional development for staff;
  • Identify resource fluctuations and assist with recruiting key staff, as required;
  • Mentor Electrical Engineers in Training (EITs) and technologists to grow the team;
  • Act as the key contact with clients, stakeholders, sub-consultants on projects; and
  • Create the division’s strategy and set key performance indicators for the division and staff;

Design

  • Lead the creation of detailed electrical design packages for power distribution and lighting systems in utility, residential, industrial, and institutional sectors;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of safety by design principals in the project work;
  • Prepare estimates for design and construction packages;
  • Respond to questions from construction crews, stakeholders, customers, utilities, and relevant third parties; and
  • Review electrical project deliverables and act as Professional of Record (POR) in Alberta and BC as required;
  • Design experience in transmission and distribution systems including, but not limited to, assets such as lines, substations and related systems like telecom and protection & control;
  • Provide support of inspection and assessment, study, analysis, survey, mapping, design, specification, construction field review, quality assurance, and commissioning of transmission and/or distribution substation systems, infrastructure, and equipment;
  • Provide services to support the procurement, cost estimating, construction, upgrade or life cycle management of any systems, infrastructure and equipment;
  • Provide services related to the performance or support of assessment, analysis, design, technical writing, specification, construction field review, quality assurance, commissioning, and decommissioning of the complete range of systems, infrastructure and equipment associated with Transmission; Substation; Distribution; Protection, Control, and Automation; and Telecommunications assets, infrastructure and systems.

Project and Work Package Management

  • Manage scope, schedule, and budget on electrical discipline projects and work packages;
  • Coordinate multiple design disciplines; and
  • Chair periodic status meetings and record meeting minutes.

Project Engineering

  • Lead multidisciplinary reviews;
  • Coordinate and develop multiple discipline contract specifications; and
  • Lead client design communications and reviews.

Business Development

  • Responsible for Business Development and the pursuit of new clients for expansion into targeted markets, and maintaining relationship with existing clients to foster repeat business; and
  • Lead, participate, and contribute to the RFP process including writing execution methodology and estimating hours and costs for various opportunities.

 

 Ideal Candidate Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or technical qualification and appropriate experience;
  • Registered as a P.Eng. with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) or APEGA; 
  • Ability and experience acting as a Professional of Record (POR); 
  • 10+ years of electrical infrastructure project experience, including industrial, utilities and/or municipal;
  • Familiar with industry standards and international codes such as the Canadian Electrical Code, IEC, and IEEE;
  • Familiarity with substation design software including: Esri ArcGIS products, including but not limited to Substation Design Suite and Utility Datahub;
  • Experience in Transmission, Electric Vehicle Charging, Protection & Controls, Telecommunications, SCADA or DCS/Automation System design areas will be considered an asset;
  • Experience with business development activities including the RFP process and Proposal preparation/submission;
  • Project Management/Coordination for engineering assignments; and 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
