Senior OHS Advisor I
Role Overview:
This position requires a proactive and experienced Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) professional who can excel in balancing corporate responsibilities, project-specific safety leadership, and strategic contributions to the organization’s goals. The role demands a strong combination of technical expertise, regulatory knowledge, and interpersonal skills to ensure the highest standards of health and safety program design, implementation, and compliance. Specifically, this role will support a key client secondment with our Contractor Safety Management team in Richmond, B.C., a dynamic and high-profile environment. The team collaborates with the client's Health and Safety department to design, create, and implement innovative safety program elements.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a depth of maturity, professionalism, and extensive consulting experience, reflecting their ability to navigate complex organizational settings with confidence and integrity. They will bring exceptional technical writing skills, with a proven ability to develop clear, user-friendly OHS program documentation. In addition, they must have extensive experience in delivering engaging and effective adult education and OHS training tailored to diverse audiences. A strong background in regulatory compliance, strategic alignment of safety initiatives with broader organizational objectives, and polished interpersonal communication are essential to succeed in this position. Certification in CHSC, CRSP, or equivalent, along with prior experience in contractor safety management or complex environments such as airports, will be considered assets.
Corporate Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the team’s development of annual department objectives which support achieving the RAM mission, core values, strategic plan, and objectives.
- Contribute to the development and completion of personal annual performance objectives, development plans, and training. Participate in regular 1:1 meetings with your team lead, and complete self-assessments for formal mid-year and annual performance reviews.
- Implement and actively participate in RAM’s Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QOHS) Management System. Support the development, implementation, and improvement of relevant department tools, including digital solutions and documentation (procedures, work instructions, forms, and templates).
- Support the growth of the RAM brand by contributing to client satisfaction through deliverables and expertise, pursuing networking opportunities to build and improve industry relationships, and other initiatives. Participate in the proposal process for various opportunities, contributing to methodology, experience, and expertise.
Safety Advising Role:
- Develop, implement, and maintain client-specific OHS Programs, Plans and Procedures and/or conduct audits of the same;
- Review contractor and/or subcontractor OHS plans and procedures, ensuring all contractors and subcontractors are in compliance with current OHS regulation, legislation, and project safe requirements and/or conduct audits of the same;
- Design and deliver safety training programs for clients and their employees at all levels, such as site orientations, general OHS awareness programs, OHS procedures, Safe Work Practice training, and specialized training for high-risk task;
- Lead near miss and/or incident investigations, including elaboration and follow-up of corrective and preventative actions and reports;
- Conduct site-focused audits and regular site observations to ensure contractors and subcontractors are following their approved site-specific Safety;
- Lead and participate in regular safety meetings, toolbox talks and project Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee meetings, as applicable; and attend other project meetings, as required.
- Ensure detailed reports on project safety performance are prepared and submitted for management review;
Ideal Candidate:
- Experienced OHS professional with at least 10+ years of work experience as a safety practitioner or professional.
- Strong familiarity with provincial and federal health and safety regulations in British Columbia, including knowledge of WorkSafeBC and other relevant regulatory bodies.
- High degree of proficiency in technical writing.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and/or conduct thorough incident investigations, including near misses and accidents. This includes root cause analysis and the development of corrective actions.
- Experience in conducting regular site audits, observations and inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
- Experienced in the development of Corporate training matrices, needs assessments, course outlines, and participant and instructor materials;
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills.
- A strong understanding of Human and Organizational performance philosophies;
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Fluent in English, with strong written and verbal communication skills crucial for creating and disseminating safety policies, procedures, and reports.
- Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Suite and an aptitude for digital solutions and software for data tracking, reporting, and analysis.
- The ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including engineers, project managers, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
- The capacity to adapt to changing situations and proactively identify and resolve safety-related challenges.
- A commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards in health, safety, and environmental practices.
- Willingness to participate in RFP/Proposal submissions, networking, and other relationship development opportunities.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license

- One or combination of:
- Degree in OHS from a recognized Post-Secondary Institute with at least 10 years of industry experience
- Professional designation such as Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC), Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), or equivalent
