We’re looking for our next Team Lead, Software Engineering. Could It Be You?
The Team Lead, Software Engineering is directly responsible for providing strategic guidance, and technical leadership for Questrade applications.
The ideal candidate for this role is an experienced professional with a proven track record in designing and developing high-performance web applications. This individual will lead a team of engineers through all phases of the software development life cycle, from requirements gathering to implementation and maintenance. They will collaborate closely with designers, product management, and quality engineers to ensure seamless execution, iterating daily and contributing to maintaining a healthy build using Agile practices.

- Lead software engineering projects, ensuring the quality of work produced by all developers in the project team.
- Establish and enforce coding standards and best practices for development.
- Champion and implement innovative development practices within the engineering teams.
- Facilitate technical discussions and build consensus for decisions.
- Collaborate with other technology teams to resolve issues and drive the development of new mobile solutions.
- Define and implement quality control methodologies for Questrade application development.
- Provide regular status updates on projects to department management, proactively raising any issues or concerns.
- Manage urgent and emergency situations involving other team members, adhering to the organization's risk management plan.
- Stay abreast of current technology trends and conduct research to identify new approaches for achieving optimal results.
- Mentor team members to support their career growth and development.
- Evaluate candidates during the recruitment process for engineers and technical leaders.
- Collaborate with other leads to design and deliver training programs that enhance the engineering team's skills and foster a strong team dynamic.
- Lead software development activities and mitigate technical risks throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Partner with the manager and other leads to establish new department policies.
- Actively participate in discussions and contribute to the development of technical solutions for new and existing applications.
- Plan, design, and coordinate software development activities, mitigating technical risks throughout the software development lifecycle.
So are YOU our next Team Lead, Software Engineering? You are if you have…
- BS or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Systems Engineering, or a related field. Alternatively, a combination of education and experience in an IT-related discipline may be considered.
- 8+ years of experience in web-based technologies, with a strong software engineering background and a successful software engineering career.
- Strong hands-on experience in creating web applications, unit testing frameworks, and supporting tools.
- Expertise in JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, and SCSS.
- Proficiency in modern front-end frameworks, particularly Angular.
- Experience with Node.js development.
- Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Experience designing and developing enterprise services using REST-based APIs.
- 1+ years of experience leading software engineering teams.
- Strong ability to understand projects at the system level.
- Superb verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional, fast-paced setting.
- Ability to interpret complex requirements and communicate direction to the technical team.
- Ability to learn, recommend, and implement new technologies for the benefit of the product.
- Experience leading a product when in production.
- Experience with product release management.
