POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director of Supply Chain, the Warehouse & Distribution Manager is responsible to provide and coordinate all Warehouse, inventory control and Transportation functions for the facility.  The role is responsible to meet the safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets and foster a working environment that is fair, equitable and driven to continuously improve

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:

 

Monitor and Ensure Health & Safety / HACCP / 5S Compliance

  • Ensures all team members are trained and performing in a safe and efficient manner using the appropriate PPE when applicable. Provide the training when appropriate.
  • Lead accident/incident investigations and submit reports in a timely manner.
  • Proactively identify and suggest ways to eliminate hazards.
  • Correct unsafe acts or conditions, ensuring health & safety policies are followed.
  • Regularly audit the Warehouse to ensure compliance with policies and procedures and ensure that inspections are appropriately documented.

 

Site Leadership 

  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture with a safety and continuous improvement mindset
  • Oversee shipping, receiving, inventory control, and raw material transfer operations
  • Provide coaching and support to Supervisor, leads and other warehouse staff
  • Manage annual budget for warehousing and transportation 
  • Institute process and technology initiatives to drive productivity, cost and service enhancements
  • Ensure efficient space utilization through layout review and workload/process management 
  • Initiate, coordinate and enforce optimal operational policies and procedures
  • Maintain standards of health and safety, hygiene and security
  • Liase with cross functional business partners to flag risks, resolve issues and deliver against business goals
  • Institute reports and KPIs to monitor and improve productivity and efficiency of operations
  • Manage staffing, recruitment and training needs for facility

 

Network Leadership

  • Lead WMS digital transformation and associated change management 
  • Lead network design strategy and operational oversight of new offsite warehousing operations
  • Oversee logistics planning and product shunting between multiple warehousing sites 
  • Manage company and contracted drivers’ performance and cost
  • Build strategic partnerships with 3rd party carriers to deliver cost and service objectives
  • Review and negotiate lane rates in partnership with Transportation Specialist to make strategic decisions on RFQ process and supplier agreements

 

Ensure the Achievement of Performance Targets  

  • Deliver against service expectations while balancing departmental cost and overall manufacturing site efficiency 
  • Understand shift performance targets and how they contribute to enabling Operations and overall business objectives to be met. 
  • Monitor shift performance to ensure targets are being met. 
  • Be aware of any significant material or information flow issues arising during the shift and ensure corrective action plans are initiated and executed. 
  • Ensure timely response to NCRs including understanding the root cause and establishing corrective action plans.
  • Manage 3rd party supplier performance to meet business objectives

 

Report and Communicate 

  • Provide direction and leadership to all shifts to ensure communication is consistent and objectives are clear to all team members
  • Ensure appropriate feedback/handoff occurs between shifts to enable success. 
  • Communicate and collaborate with cross functional department Managers and senior leadership team to resolve issues and drive improvement

Support and Drive Continuous Improvement 

  • Identify improvement opportunities and participate in establishing the performance metrics and the CI program for the Department.
  • Champion the CI program to the Shop Floor.
  • Facilitate implementation of changes in the department.
  • Sponsor, lead, facilitate or participate in specific CI projects and establishment of Standard Work.
  • Sponsor, lead, facilitate or participate in Kaizens.
  • Promote a continuous improvement culture.

 

Training 

  • Responsible for training Team Members on cGMPs, Food Safety (SQF) and Quality procedure

 

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

 

Educational Requirements: Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.

Minimum Experience/Field: 3 - 5 years of progressive leadership in a fast paced, high volume Lean Manufacturing environment.

Licenses/Permits Required: Forklift/Reach Truck licenses an asset.

Communication Skills: Fluent in English with good verbal and written communication skills

Physical Requirements: This job requires considerable time spent on shop floor exposed to noisy environment.
