Position Summary

Reporting to the Base Manager, the Aircraft Load Coordinator is responsible for preparing the flight manifests and ensuring that passenger baggage and/or cargo loads comply with weight and balance limitations in accordance with Transport Canada regulations.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Work with colleagues in the Cargo, Ramp and SOCC departments to maximize payload while utilizing the most efficient aircraft configurations
  • Input values into the Daily Cargo Report after each flight
  • Using reasonable judgement, ability to balance conflicting operational requirements to maximize cargo payload while maintaining on-time performance, all without jeopardizing safety or regulatory compliance by utilizing data from operational flight plans
  • Demonstrate friendly customer service support, ensuring that Northern Agents have been informed of flight delays and/or when a freight aircraft will be sent to their community, as well as advising Northern Agents when equipment will be required to offload freight or baggage
  • Coordinate de-ice operations with flight crew and ramp staff
  • Communicate fueling requirements with the Captain after checking through load numbers in the internal computer system
  • Coordinate and prepare freight preloads and freight final loads, communicating with the Cargo Loadmaster
  • Ensure that all Ramp Agents are promptly informed when a flight will be arriving or departing to ensure that all services needed are delivered on time
  • Ensure that Ramp Agents and Customer Service employees are aware of any passenger/baggage/freight changes on flights, including flight delays
  • Ensure that all applicable Dangerous Goods paperwork is complete and signed by the Captain
  • Plan aircraft seat configurations for flights and communicate the organization of the aircraft movement on the ground to the Cargo and Ramp Operations employees
  • Load planning for standby passengers, excess baggage and available baggage/freight space
  • Work collaboratively with Cargo and Ramp Supervisors to ensure that tasks and departmental objectives are completed in a timely manner
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Minimum Education, Experience and Certifications

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) equivalent
  • Indigenous and Cultural Awareness Training considered an asset
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain any applicable transportation security clearances and additional authorizations
  • Knowledge of Amelia computer system is considered an asset
  • Must possess valid driver’s license
  • Canadian Radio License (Aeronautical) required for this role
  • Forklift license or completed applicable training considered an asset
  • Airline experience considered an asset

Working Conditions

  • Physically able to perform all listed job duties.
  • Travel by aircraft and other means as required by role.
  • Work performed both indoors and outdoors; employee must be able to adapt to all outdoor weather conditions.
  • Work performed in multiple environments. Contact with staff and the general public.
  • Shiftwork may be required (days, evenings and/or night shift).
  • Work in a warehouse environment with full range of movement including, but not limited to, bending, sitting, standing, lifting to a maximum of 75lbs, pushing and pulling daily.
  • Ability to carry and operate a radio.
  • Use of safety equipment as required and applicable to role.
