Senior Swim Instructor/Lifeguard

Community Services Department

(Part-time position, 24 hours per week)

The Community Services Department has a part-time opportunity available for the position of Senior Swim Instructor/Lifeguard. This position will be part of the leading a team assisting in overseeing the delivery of aquatics programs. The Senior Swim Instructor/Lifeguard will also perform instruction of swimming lessons and lifeguard duties and ensure a safe aquatic environment for participants.

 

Job Duties:

  • Acting as the Head Swim Instructor/Lifeguard during swimming lessons and programs; completing administrative tasks such as facility/shift checks, accident reports, overseeing guarding rotations, water testing, completing logbooks and lesson plans; and assisting the full-time staff as required.
  • Providing customer service to families during swimming lesson in a variety of program levels; completing lesson plans, participant report cards and any other required program documentation.
  • Performing lifeguarding duties in accordance with legislation, policies, standards, and procedures; providing swimming lesson instruction in a variety of program levels; delivering advanced aquatic courses for staff and public; completing opening and closing procedures for the pool facility and change rooms as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Completion of secondary education
  • Minimum of one (1) year of previous experience as swim instructor and lifeguard
  • Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard (Pool option)
  • Standard First Aid with CPR “C” from an accredited organization
  • Lifesaving Society Swim Instructors
  • Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor
  • Lifesaving Society Emergency First Aid Instructor
  • Lifesaving Society Aquatic Supervisor (AS)
  • Lifesaving Bronze Examiner
  • Current Lifesaving Standard First Aid Examiners
  • Current National Lifeguard Instructor, SFA Instructor, Lifesaving Society Instructor Trainer or Aqua fitness certifications would all be considered assets
  • Strong oral and written communications skills with the ability to follow and provide clear direction and be assertive in a fair, consistent manner
  • Strong problem solving, decision making and interpersonal relations skills

 

Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check, including but not limited to a Vulnerable Sector Check, in accordance with the duties of this position.

 

Hourly Range: $29.48 to $34.48, Band 5 on the Town’s 2025 Pay Grid
