Summer Reading Program Assistant

Community Services Department

Contract dates: June 2, 2025 to August 29, 2025

 

The Town is seeking two Summer Reading Program Assistants to join the Orangeville Public Library. Under the direction of full-time staff, the Summer Reading Program Assistants will develop and facilitate a summer reading program that fosters a love of literacy and lifelong learning for children based on the national TD Summer Reading incentive program guidelines and theme. Duties of this position include preparing and facilitating age-appropriate and literacy rich children’s programming; assisting with the planning, development, implementation and the evaluation of literacy and leisure public programs for children specifically designed for the TD Summer Reading Club; ensuring programming is accessible to all and promotes equity, diversity and inclusion; incorporating opportunities to celebrate indigenous culture; program and event set-up and take down tasks; responding to client inquiries and concerns and referring to senior staff if necessary; and other duties as assigned. Normal hours of work for this position will be up to thirty (30) hours per week. There may be a requirement to work various shifts, including some evenings and weekends.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Full-time enrollment in a post-secondary education program, preferably in a library, creative, technological, or child-related field.
  • Previous experience in program planning, event planning, working with children, and leadership would be an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with video/digital technology, editing software, and social media platforms.

 

Hourly Rate: $20.40 - $22.07 (2025 rate)

 

Please note:

  • To be eligible for this job, students must be enrolled in full-time post-secondary education. Students may be asked to provide proof of enrolment.
  • All student interviews are expected to be scheduled in February 2025. We will work within the Winter 2025 reading weeks advertised by Ontario post-secondary institutions; however, please be advised that we may not be able to accommodate every school schedule. Virtual interview formats are available.
  • Successful candidates must complete a Vulnerable Sector Check in accordance with the duties of this position.
  • All Town student positions are subject to budget and grant approval, and thus may be subject to change.
