One of a network of provincial community health centres, the NorWest Community Health Centres is a community based, non-profit organization funded by Ontario Health, emphasizing access to primary health care and prevention programs and services.
NorWest CHC is seeking a contract 1.0 FTE RN who, as a valuable member of the NorWest Community Health Centres’ team, will provide health care to individuals residing in the Kwae Kii Win (KKW) Managed Alcohol Program, located at the Shelter House, and offer programs that focus on harm reduction and health promotion. The Registered Nurse at the Kwae Kii Win Managed Alcohol Program is charged with assisting in the delivery of primary care services to the clients of Kwae Kii Win and Shelter House, with a strong emphasis on disease prevention, harm reduction, health promotion/education and empowerment. The Nurse will work collaboratively with other interdisciplinary team members and service providers, as well as with service users.
Kwae Kii Win requires the nurse to work to full scope of practice as a regulated health professional and incorporate regulated doses of alcohol alongside other medical and support services to address the harms of severe alcohol dependence and homelessness.
The position has a competitive salary and the Health Care of Ontario Pension Plan.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Registered Nurse licensed to practice with the College of Nurses of Ontario; preferably a baccalaureate degree in nursing from a recognized university with public health experience.
- Significant frontline nursing harm reduction experience; values aligned with a harm reduction approach to service delivery.
- Thorough knowledge and proficiency in current nursing procedures, nursing assessment, physical assessments, and treatment measures.
- Experience with overdose prevention and response, physical ability to provide support in an overdose situation.
- Experience working with people who use substances.
- Awareness and sensitivity to socio-economic and cultural issues.
- Awareness of and sensitivity to health issues particularly within populations who face barriers to accessing care (under housed, living with mental health challenges or diagnoses, current or past substance use, complex health histories, 2SLGBTQI+, newcomers, non-insured).
- Demonstrated ability to de-escalate conflict.
- Knowledge of community services and resources; strong advocacy skills.
- Proficiency in the use of computer technology and various software applications.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Respects and values the diversity of communities and individuals.
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
- Valid driver's license required and access to a reliable vehicle.
