Care Bus Coordinator
1 FTE - Contract November 25, 2024 to March 31, 2025
Thunder Bay Site

One of a network of provincial community health centres, the NorWest Community Health Centres is a community based, non-profit organization funded by Ontario Health, emphasizing access to primary health care and prevention programs and services.

The primary focus of this position is to provide leadership and support for the work of the Care Bus. The Care Bus Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the provision of high quality harm reduction services, in keeping with the principles of client centered, collaborative care, staff scheduling, and coordination with partners.  

The Care Bus Coordinator provides direct supervision for Care Bus operations and staff team, currently comprised of Harm Reduction Outreach Workers. The Care Bus Coordinator role will involve a combination of frontline work on the Care Bus as well as administrative work at NorWest Community Health Centres. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The ideal candidate will have supervisory and program coordination experience
  • Broad knowledge in the areas of harm reduction, addictions, social determinants of health and health promotion
  • Demonstrated leadership skills within an interdisciplinary model of care
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively navigate conflict and manage risk
  • Capacity to de-escalate situations
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a client-centred approach
  • Strong organizational, administrative and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbally
  • Experience in working effectively with culturally and economically diverse populations
  • Ability to develop relations that enhance pathways to care
  • Capacity to support frontline staff to follow all health and safety requirements
  • Ability to mitigate risk and maintain a safe environment for both staff and clients
  • Knowledge and experience of trauma and complex grief and loss
  • Proficiency in the use of a personal computer and software programs including Microsoft Office, email and internet
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to health issues particularly within populations who face barriers to accessing care (under housed, living with mental health challenges or diagnoses, current or past substance use, complex health histories, 2SLGBTQI+, newcomers, non-insured)
  • Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and to be on-call to fill in shifts as required
  • Ability to schedule and ensure full staff coverage for all Care Bus shifts
  • Current driver’s license and access to a vehicle is considered an asset
  • Preference will be given to individuals with lived or family experience with mental health, addictions and/or recovery, or individuals working with vulnerable populations.
