Purpose of the position:

 

The Registered Pharmacy Technician will provide safe and effective drug distribution services to numerous facilities. This may include gaining knowledge in geriatrics, palliative care, and mental health medications and developing quick and accurate checking skills to support final checks in compounding, compliance packaging and other prescription requirements. 

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all prescriptions are complete and authentic
  • Provide final check in a team-based workflow environment and also be involved in the quality assurance team
  • Confirm the accuracy and completeness of pharmaceutical products prepared for delivery
  • Accept verbal prescriptions from prescribing authorities
  • Perform the final check of prepared prescriptions
  • Preparing and verifying medication orders to be distributed to homes
  • Service the front-store dispensary, which will include customer service, telephone inquiries and general housekeeping duties 
  • Medication reconciliation for all new admissions and readmissions to Long Term Care
  • Data verification for prescriptions entered by other pharmacy staff
  • Checking weekly/daily/monthly cycle fills (ensuring technical accuracy for regular maintenance medications packed through automation)
  • Learning and being familiar with the necessary process needed for accurate automation
  • Working with various electronic medication administration platforms, including Catalyst and Point Click Care
  • Working with pharmacy automation, including VBM, PacMed, PacVision and PacRoll software
  • Working directly with the pharmacist to ensure appropriate patient care requires knowledge of the technician and pharmacist's scope of practice
  • Support and manage daily workflow in the dispensary
  • Support off-site vaccination clinics
  • Receive and transcribe verbal prescriptions from practitioners (with the exception of verbal narcotic and benzodiazepine prescriptions)
  • Ensure that a prescription is complete and authentic
  • Transfer prescriptions to and receive prescriptions from other pharmacies
  • Ensure the accuracy of a prepared prescription
  • Perform the final check of a prepared prescription
  • Ensure the accuracy of drug and personal health information in patient records

 

What do you need to qualify?

Education and Experience

  • Proficiency in using the Kroll system and other pharmacy operating systems.
  • Registered as a pharmacy technician is mandatory.
  • Extensive experience with vulnerable populations.
  • Completion of a recognized pharmacy technician program.
  • Three years of proven experience in pharmacy technician roles.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledgeable in pharmacy law and medical terminology.
  • Outstanding phone etiquette and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize workflow, and meet deadlines.
