About the Job
The Human Resources Business Partner reports to the Manager of Human Resources and is an HR Professional who uses their experience to help leadership teams create and evolve the HR Branch. This role focuses on empowering people leaders to lead their teams effectively through change and growth. Ultimately, the role will work to balance business-related interests, with a people-focused approach to reach goals and objectives. While heavily involved in HR-related decision-making processes, it remains a strategic support.
What You Will Be Doing
The role, while maintaining a big-picture and comprehensive approach to human resources, also supports in a variety of day-to-day activities. Roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Working with senior management to determine current HR needs.
- Create strategic ways to improve the relationship between the company’s leadership and its employees.
- Support the evaluation of the branch and department needs linked to the organizational goals and objectives.
- Build process improvements in HR-related areas, ensuring goals and objectives are actioned.
- Oversee and participate in the talent acquisition process, extending this responsibility into talent management, and talent retention.
- Draft new HR policies in accordance with organizational goals, industry trends and labor laws or regulations.
- Ensure a strong understanding of laws and regulations to help the company stay in compliance.
- Stay current on HR trends to develop solutions using current best practices in the field.
- Day-today activities include:
- Supporting Occupational Health and Safety.
- Documentation management and maintenance.
- Total rewards administration.
- Responding to requests and provide solutions or redirect as quickly as possible.
- Ensuring HR activities and documentation are consistent with applicable policies and procedures, maintaining the strictest level of confidentiality.
- Participate in or lead ad-hoc HR related projects as they come up or as they are outlined through the HR workplan each year.
- All other duties will be assigned as per operational requirements of the MNO.
Qualifications:
- Degree or Diploma from a recognized university or college in human resources, business or related field.
- 1+ years of experience in an HR Generalist or Administrative role.
- Membership in an accredited Human Resources professional’s association (certification preferred)
- Substantial knowledge of applicable employment legislation and regulations, such as but not limited to: Employment Standards Act, 2000, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, The Ontario Human Rights Code, Pay Equity Act.
- Advanced skills in creating in employee life cycle activities: recruitment, training, coaching for performance, discipline, and termination.
- Knowledge of Métis culture and Métis Nation of Ontario
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
