Under the direction of the Director of Corporate Services, the IT Specialist – Business Systems is responsible for supporting the technological direction of Magnum, with a primary focus on SQL reporting and Power BI reporting. This role involves developing and maintaining business intelligence and reporting systems, including creating and optimizing SQL queries, SSRS Reporting and Power BI reports\dashboards to meet business requirements and enhance decision-making capabilities.

 

Job Responsibilities

Reporting and Data Management

  • Develop, implement, and optimize SQL queries for generating reports from various business systems, ensuring data accuracy, performance, and efficiency.
  • Design, create, and maintain SSRS & Power BI reports and dashboards to provide actionable insights and data visualizations for business stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to gather reporting requirements and translate them into SSRS and\or Power BI solutions.
  • Work with internal systems to develop reporting strategies and leverage built in reporting capabilities
  • Regularly review and improve existing SQL queries and Power BI dashboards to ensure they meet business needs and optimize performance.
  • Verify application results by conducting system audits on reporting technologies to ensure data integrity and report quality.
  • Assist in data integration and ensure seamless reporting across different systems and databases.

Technical Support and Maintenance

  • Provide technical support for SQL databases, SSRS Reports, Power BI reports, troubleshooting issues and ensuring smooth operation of reporting systems.
  • Monitor the performance of SQL queries and Power BI dashboards, identifying and addressing potential improvements in efficiency and usability.
  • Implement disaster recovery and back-up procedures for reporting systems to ensure data security and continuity of business intelligence reporting.
  • Maintain and update business systems used for reporting, ensuring they are current and aligned with the needs of the organization.
  • Assist with the development of documentation for SQL reports and Power BI dashboards, outlining processes, methodologies, and system configurations.

Collaboration and Process Improvement

  • Work closely with stakeholders across various departments to understand their data reporting needs and deliver tailored solutions using SQL and Power BI.
  • Provide recommendations for process improvements and reporting enhancements based on feedback from users and data analysis.
  • Participate in regular meetings with business units to review report effectiveness and suggest improvements.
  • Stay up-to-date with best practices in SQL reporting and Power BI, recommending new tools or approaches that could benefit the organization.

General

  • Participate in ongoing training and development to enhance skills in SQL reporting and Power BI report development.
  • Perform other related duties as required, particularly those involving the analysis, creation, and optimization of SQL queries and Power BI reports.
  • Provide additional support to the helpdesk when required.

 

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required

  • College diploma or degree in computer science, information systems, or software engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Several years of experience in SQL database management, SQL Reporting and Power BI report development.
  • Proven experience in SQL reporting, including writing and optimizing queries for data extraction and reporting purposes.
  • Knowledge with Data Pipelines and Extract Transform Load (ETL).
  • Experience with SQL Database Stored Procedures, Functions and Triggers.
  • Knowledge and Experience with Designing and Creating Database Architecture
  • Expertise in Power BI, with experience in developing interactive reports, dashboards, and data visualizations.
  • Strong understanding of data analysis and how to translate business needs into actionable reporting solutions.
  • Experience with CI/DC Processes, repositories and deployments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to SQL queries and Power BI dashboards.
  • Legally eligible to work in the country the role is based out of.

Looking For

  • Solid experience with SQL databases, including data extraction, manipulation, and reporting.
  • Expertise in SQL Reporting & Power BI for creating, optimizing, and maintaining dashboards and reports.
  • Strong attention to detail and a focus on data accuracy in all reporting activities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently resolve technical issues in SQL and Power BI environments.
  • Effective communication skills to work with non-technical stakeholders and present complex data in a clear and accessible manner.
