Technical Field Specialist - Strathmore, AB
Under the direction of the Director of Quality Assurance and Compliance, the Technical Field Specialist is responsible for gaining experience and knowledge in the areas of research and development, cement job design and simulation, safety, training, lab, operations, electronics and dispatch. This position provides support and assists as directed in pre-planning, job execution and post job analysis in the delivery of cementing services. This role is responsible for conducting experiments, performing tests and providing results, analysis and reporting. This role is considered to be safety-sensitive.The Technical Field Specialist role encompasses three levels of seniority based on skillset and experience with Magnum’s various service lines, which include Oilfield Cementing, Soil Stabilization, Isolation Technologies, Fluid Services, and Bulk Plants.
Job Responsibilities
- Gain work experience in Magnum’s core service line of Oilfield Cementing, progressively working through the various positions in the service line, becoming competent in each, from entry-level up to eventual supervisory roles.
- Gain work experience in the field operations of Magnum’s other various service lines, including but not limited to Soil Stabilization, Fluid Services, and Isolation Technologies.
- Gain a working knowledge of the technical departments that support field operations involved in primary and remedial cementing services.
- Study and interpret cementing job execution, report issues and assist in planning safe processes for cementing.
- Research and drive process improvement to improve operational efficiency out on location.
- Interact with departments or external clients to meet specific requests; provide high level of customer service.
- Research new technology within the oilfield industry and report on findings as well as provide recommendation on research undertaken.
- Analyze data and provide reports to engineering and sales divisions; recalculate formulas as required.
- Provide engineering expertise to resolve technical problems, including identifying potential improvements to job design, using performance tracking of equipment and materials.
- Manage project record keeping (e.g. daily reports) and assist in technical writing as directed.
- Develop, update, and drive continuous improvement in operational training program (competency training) and dispatch / logistics processes (coordination of operations).
- Maintain and update technical and scheduling documentation for engineering and operational projects.
- Perform assignments requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles.
- Review and establish Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)/Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs) to ensure operations is working in a safe manner.
- Assist with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Leading and Lagging indicator trending, and Safety Statistics.
- Participate in safety meetings for operations.
- Participate in training and development activities.
- Other related duties as required.
Qualifications - Required
- Related or working towards a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or Petroleum engineering, equivalent technical diploma, or a combination of education and experience.
- Good organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities or projects and meet deadlines.
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Office).
- Able to work overtime, travel, accommodate a flexible schedule, and participate in an on-call rotation.
- Able to be work a field operations shift as required to support business needs; on call 24 hours on a 15 days on a 6 days off rotational schedule, remaining fit for duty at all times (subject to change due to market conditions).
- Physically capable of moving/lifting heavy objects up to 23 kg., bending, standing, gripping, sitting/driving, walking, and climbing repeatedly for extended periods (specific to field support work).
- Able to work outdoors for extended periods of time and in all types of weather conditions (specific to field support work).
- Able to work in congested or confined areas, and with exposure to loud noises and vibration (specific to field support work).
- Legally eligible to work in the country the role is based out of.

Valid class 1 (Canada) / class A CDL (U.S.) driver’s license and driving experience on all types of roads.
