QHSE Coordinator - Strathmore, AB
Under the direction of the HSE and External Compliance Manager, the QHSE Coordinator is responsible for supporting operational effectiveness of the department, as well as organizational success pertaining to safety legislation being adhered to and policies and practices being adopted. This role will provide support to operational leadership through planning, promoting, implementing, monitoring, and reviewing the protective and preventative measures that the company is required by legislation, standards, industry best practices and/or internal processes developed to promote the health, safety, and wellbeing of all individuals within the organization and those impacted by our operations. This role works in collaboration with the entire HSE and External Compliance department to minimize operational losses, occupational health problems, accidents and injuries. The QHSE Coordinator role encompasses two levels of seniority based on skillset and experience.
Job Responsibilities
- Prepare health and safety documentation to support departmental needs, including but not limited to, Safety Meetings, Joint Health and Safety Committee agendas and minutes, compliance reports, audit documentation, and training reports and certifications.
- Review occurrence reports to support investigations, as needed.
- Support incident, near miss, and first aid investigations related to injuries or potential for serious injury.
- Assist in the development and presentation of relevant HSE training, including internal new hire onboarding.
- Monitor, improve, and ensure compliance of Magnum’s QHSE Program.
- Assist in the monitoring and maintenance of Magnum’s Leading and Lagging Indicators Statistics (Observations, Hazard IDs, Inspections, Incidents, etc.).
- Support data collection for the management of Magnum’s compliance sites, including ISNetworld, Complyworks, and Avetta.
- Support Magnum’s HSE COR Safety Program and external customer audits.
- Assist in compliance reviews, general risk assessments, and other safety assessments to support Health, Safety and Environmental management.
- Promote incident prevention for the benefit of employees and visitors.
- Maintain records of incidents, accidents, and inspection findings. Produce statistics and reports, as needed, for managers that suggest improvements.
- Assist with the development of JSA/SOPs.
- Assist with and support Magnum’s Transportation Safety Program, which includes maintaining relevant Transportation Safety Logs and documentation, and keeping the Transportation Safety Manual up to date.
- Remain up to date on Health and Safety legislation and any developments that affect Magnum’s industry.
- Analyze and recommend improvements or changes needed to working practices that are safe and comply with legislation through observations and work process inspections.
- Support the development of health and safety strategies, including internal policies, standards, or procedures, by collaboration of operational stakeholders and departments.
- Coordinate with management, staff, and external parties to obtain information needed to support project initiatives and/or meet project deadlines.
- Monitor and promote compliance to Magnum policies, procedures, legislation, and client requirements.
- Work with the Technical Services department and Operations departments to ensure non-compliance is immediately addressed and effectively corrected in a manner that guarantees due diligence is maintained.
- Monitor and support maintaining Magnum’s Leading and Lagging Indicators Statistics (Observations, Hazard IDs, Inspections, Incidents, etc.).
- Assist in establishing KPI’s based off of statistics through data analytics.
- Support compliance assurance through Magnum’s compliance sites, including ISNetworld, Complyworks, and Avetta.
- Monitor, improve, and ensure compliance of Magnum HSE COR Safety Program and external customer audits, including conducting COR audits and corrective action plans.
- Assist managers or supervisors with the day-to-day operations of HSE functions and duties by directing and mentoring in their own H&S responsibilities (H&S reporting, Job Hazard Assessment, Emergency Response, PPE, site safety inspections, etc.).
- Perform incident, near miss, and first aid investigations related to injuries or potential for serious injury.
- Assist with competency training development (MAP) related to safety initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with clients and employees to maintain the company’s reputation for quality and commitment to service.
- Participate in training and development activities.
- Other related duties as required.
Qualifications - Required
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Ability to identify and recognize unsafe conditions and work practices.
- Good communication skills, both spoken and written.
- Experience and ability to use computer software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and accounting software. Proficient experience in MS Office and records management software.
- Able to work overtime and weekends.
- Legally eligible to work in the country the role is based out of.
Qualifications - Looking For
- Existing knowledge of safety principles and practices, as well as a solid understanding of applicable HSE legislation.
- Post-secondary education in management, business, or another related field.
- Understands the importance of safety.

Qualifications - Assets
- Current safety tickets (First Aid, H2S Alive, Common Safety Orientation, Ground Disturbance, etc.).
- Safety-related designation (HSA, CHSR or equivalent, etc.). CHSR designation will be required for level 2 QHSE Coordinators.
- Occupational Health and Safety Certificate.
- Prior experience and understanding of the operation of cement pumping and mixing equipment.
