The Role:
As a Structural Bridge Technician, you will play a vital role in preparing detailed drawings and reports in accordance with standards and specifications. You will utilize your expertise in AutoCAD to develop accurate structure drawings, solve geometric problems, and ensure construction feasibility. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing structural rehabilitation estimates, preparing tender documents, and contributing to the overall success of our projects.
The ideal candidate will have the following background, skills and attributes:
- Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field.
- Registration as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) with ASET is considered an asset.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in projects involving bridge size culverts, steel, and concrete bridge structures in Alberta and Western Canada.
- Expertise in AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D software.
- Knowledge in Alberta Transportation standards and policies and the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CSA-S6).
- Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in drawings.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Possess a valid driver's license and have access to a vehicle with valid registration and insurance, including 3 year driver abstract.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in bridge and structural culvert field inspections as per Alberta Transportation standards and policies.
- Utilize AutoCAD to prepare structure drawings including drawing all plans, elevations, cross-sections and other details in accordance with Ministry standards and specifications.
- Solve routine geometric problems involved in linear and angular dimensions, grades, elevations and alignments for bridge geometrics.
- Develop arrangement of size and shape of structural components to provide good appearance.
- Prepare drawings with clarity, simplicity, arithmetic, geometric accuracy and construction feasibility; and computing quantities of materials, determining unit prices, and developing cost estimates.
- Develop structural rehabilitation quantity estimates, working day schedules, and cost estimates.
- Prepare tender documents for bridge and structural culvert projects.
- Prepare structural reports.
- Complete construction supervision and site inspections on an as-needed basis.
