Manager – Sustainable Cities (Land Development)

Armed with a wealth of project experience and an in-depth grasp of municipal requirements, the Egis team has expertise in the municipal approvals process throughout Ontario and beyond.
Tailoring our approach to the specific nature of the development, we meticulously prepare planning and engineering documents necessary for submission. These documents serve as a testament to our unwavering commitment to best practices including sustainable design, while adhering to municipal design standards and criteria, assuring the municipality that the proposed development won't adversely affect adjacent properties or downstream infrastructure.
Embedded within Egis’s land development process is a thorough assessment of natural features on each site. Our meticulous plans are designed to minimize environmental impacts while maximizing the sustainable development of your project.
The ideal candidate will have the following background, skills and attributes:
- Completion of a university degree in Civil Engineering;
- 15+ years of project management on land development projects;
- Proven track record of leading Engineering teams;
- Professional Engineer in Ontario;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (French would also be an asset);
- Strong attention to detail, problem solving skills, time management and ability to think creatively;
- Sound understanding of the land development process including the planning act and applicable subdivision and site plan approval process;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team;
- Strong project management experience including proper project set-up, scheduling, invoicing, (experience with financial software such as deltek or oracle would be an asset)
- Has worked in, or understands the consulting engineering environment; and
- Working knowledge of modelling software (PCSWMM, HEC-RAS, WaterCAD, SewerCAD, EPANET, etc.).
Key Responsibilities:
- Client Management and Business Development including client communications regarding new opportunities, key projects, and staffing concerns.
- Strategic Planning and Budget Preparation including assisting with preparation and implementation of business plans with senior management and Service Line leaders;
- Operational Planning including regularly meeting with Senior Leadership to report on resourcing and people management issues, financial reporting and business development
- Strategic Planning including working with the Division Vice-President to create and maintain the 3-year Strategic Plan for the Land Development Division;
- Financial Management including being accountable for meeting the financial targets for the Division (Utilization, Gross & Net Revenue, DLM, and DSO) and assisting with maintaining and keeping current the standard reports including Accounts Receivable, Opportunity Pipeline, and Backlog;
- People Management and Development including establishing employee development plans, training requirements, performance expectations and scorecards, when applicable;
- Developing and maintaining relationships with industry professionals, consultants and other business leaders to help grow the business;
- Providing guidance and oversight in the preparation of proposals, development of work plans, schedules, budgets, fees and negotiations;
- Providing leadership, daily management, and mentoring to the Land Development engineering team;
- Acting as a project manager on Land Development projects;
- Managing the successful delivery of multi-discipline projects and satisfying client expectations;
- Ensuring proper project planning is in place for the scheduling, staffing and resourcing of teams in order to ensure the effective execution of projects; and
- Monitoring industry standards and developments, assessing client needs and making concrete decisions on proposed solutions.
