The Opportunity
McElhaney has a unique opportunity for a Civil Engineer to join our team in Vancouver, BC. We have developed a successful utility design and construction group in the Vancouver region and are looking for a senior engineer to bring additional expertise to the team. You will expand our expertise and capabilities on large and complex utility projects including welded steel watermains, sanitary interceptors, and marine crossings in addition to supporting our ongoing projects across western Canada.

In this role, your primary responsibilities are to lead complex utility projects, provide detailed design support in production of engineering designs, drawings, and specifications, and assist in pursuit, project management, proposal and delivery of local and regional projects. Working closely with our Division and Branch Managers and operational teams, the successful candidate can rely on a very capable and established interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities
- Provide detailed production of engineering assessments, designs, drawings and specifications for various municipal and private land development civil projects
- Design opportunities include water and wastewater infrastructure, transportation, retaining structures, erosion protection, grading and drainage design, site servicing
- Work from preliminary concepts and sketches into engineering designs, plans and project informational requirements, using Civil 3D, as well as other technical software as needed.
- Coordinate and assist in the preparation of documents required for approvals, prepare development and construction cost estimates, tender documents and contracts, and coordinate with other team members to ensure schedules, budgets and quality control standards are achieved.
- Complete field inspections to monitor the quality and progress of the work being performed.
Requirements
- P.Eng with 10 - 20 years’ experience in a similar role with past experience leading and mentoring interdisciplinary team of junior and intermediate engineers
- Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
- Experience in a consulting engineering environment an asset, but not required
- High productivity, attention to detail, and effective verbal and written communication skills
What Can We Offer You?
The salary range for this position is $124,440 - $163,200 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
