The Opportunity:
Do you have a passion for contributing to Western Canada’s infrastructure projects? Our Edmonton Geomatics branch has an opportunity for a Senior Geomatics Office Technologist to join our team. In this position you will play a key role on projects by assisting in the management of field data and supporting of field staff and Project Managers You will have the opportunity to work alongside a team of land surveyors, technologists, technicians, and engineers on a variety of survey projects ranging from transportation infrastructure, industrial facilities, and legal/regulatory survey.
This is an ideal opportunity for a talented Senior level Geomatics Technician to join our innovative Edmonton team, bringing technologically advanced Geomatics and survey solutions to all our clients in the region.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- As a key member of project teams, you will be responsible for coordinating and performing all calculations, plan checking and data management for those projects.
- Senior-level expertise in interpretation of engineering plans for layout and quantities as well as quality assurance checks.
- Interpret field data to create accurate survey sketches, disposition plans and legal plans, which will include downloading and editing field data, interpreting field notes and sketches, and processing conventional and GPS data
- Liaising with Project Managers and clients regarding enquiries and issues
- Supporting survey crews to further enhance our services to the client
What You'll Bring:
- Degree or technical diploma in Geomatics with at least 3 years of progressive experience; experience in cadastral surveys and construction surveys is required. Experience with high-order control surveys, laser scanning and UAV data processing would be an asset.
- Excellent organizational skills, communication skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressures generated by deadlines and workload.
- Multitasking and being reactive to ever-changing project tasks.
- Ability to work in a team environment is essential.
- Experience with CAD (MicroSurvey or Civil3D), Microsoft Excel, and Trimble Business Centre (TBC) software is essential.
- Familiarity with integration of CAD data into GIS format is an asset.
- Knowledge of survey and boundary calculation, geodetic coordinate systems and map projections. Capable of computations and assessment of found legal evidence in the field when necessary.
- Understanding of the Alberta Land titles system and disposition plan requirements.
- Flexibility for this candidate to work in the field as needed, is considered an asset

Salary Range: 32$- 46$ per hour. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
