The Opportunity: 


McElhanney has a need for multiple Construction Surveyors / Survey Technicians to join our Edmonton Geomatics branch to work on projects local to the Edmonton area.

 

We currently have live and upcoming projects relating to municipal infrastructure, highways, rail, LRT, bridges, earthworks, structural and utilities. Some projects require a full-time survey presence for the duration of the project and potentially offer survey foreman/supervisor opportunities.

  • Numerous city-based projects are multiyear assignments and can offer continuous 5-6 day working weeks
  • McElhanney has industry leading capabilities in Surveying, Scanning, RPAS/drone operations, Bathymetry, LiDAR and remote sensing, line locating and GIS, offering the opportunity to expand knowledge and contribute to improving and implementing processes.
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing is required, as well as pre-site access testing as per client requirements.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License is mandatory

 

 

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Field completion of surveys in support of Engineering and Construction including topographic surveys, layout of alignments, grades and features; high order control networks, deformation monitoring and quantity measurements.
  • Work with the latest generation of conventional instruments as well as terrestrial scanners, RPAS/drone units and emerging technologies. We strive to provide clients with the highest levels of service and commit to support field staff with the appropriate resources and equipment required to complete the task.
  • Work with Project Managers and clients to understand objectives, budgets, schedules, and timeframes
  • Expand upon, or develop, processing and calculating skills to gain a broader knowledge of survey operations.
  • Some projects offer the opportunity to work alongside McElhanney Site Inspectors and Engineers on site as part of the Consultant Engineers team, offering the chance to learn construction management while providing all project surveying services.
  • McElhanney operates a fleet of over 50 RPAS/drones with a program to continually develop staff and processes. We can provide the necessary training to qualify for Advanced Certification.
  • Where appropriate work semi autonomously to manage surveying tasks, fully supported by a project team.
  • Ensure implementation of quality assurance, safety, and policy compliance.

 

 

What You’ll Bring:

  • Two-year technical diploma in Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or relatable subject with at least 2 years of previous experience in a similar role. A higher level of experience in surveying, construction or engineering will be considered if no diploma is held.
  • 3 years relevant site experience.
  • Some assignments require a willingness to work up to 12 hours per day, 6 days per week for extended periods
  • Competence in the fundamentals and use of robotic Total stations
  • Physical ability to work on varied terrain, potentially over long days and the ability to lift heavy equipment.
  • Experience with Civil 3D, MicroSurvey and Trimble Business Centre is an asset
  • The ability to work in confined spaces and at height is beneficial (not essential).

Pay Range: $26- $39 per hour. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
