Municipal Construction Inspector
The Opportunity
McElhanney has an exciting opportunity for a Construction Inspector to join our team in the Lower Mainland. In this role, you will be a key player within the Municipal Division helping us expand our construction services for existing and prospective clients throughout the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley. As a self-motivated problem solver, you excel in client-facing roles that allow you to think on the spot while working on municipal construction projects ranging from roadworks, cycling and pedestrian improvements, bridges, and utilities. What You’ll Be Doing
- Provide on-site contractor inspection for municipal roadwork and utility projects including monitoring the quality and progress of the work being performed and preparing daily inspection reports
- Maintain inventories of bid item quantities and assist with payment authorizations
- Identify field and design issues, facilitate corrective measures, and perform constructability reviews
- Ensure team is motivated and on track, project deadlines are met within budget, and quality of work meets or exceeds client expectations.
- Be forward thinking; understand the construction process and be able to learn the specifications and requirements of the work which they will be inspecting
- Understand the hazards and safe work procedures for each task and inspection location
What You’ll Bring
- Previous field or construction related experience as assistant supervisor/inspector would be an asset
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field
- Ability to be flexible in work schedule, especially during the busy inspection season
- Ability to interpret contracts, drawings, and specifications and compare them with construction in progress, detecting faulty materials and workmanship, and suggesting appropriate remedies
- Exceptional organization and follow-up skills; ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
What’s In It For You?
The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $85,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
