The Opportunity:
We have a new opportunity for a Transportation Project Manager to join our team in Edmonton. This role is ideal for someone who is looking to further their leadership and technical skills, lead client development all while having the freedom to grow a team while working collaboratively with McElhanney leaders from disciplines as diverse as transportation planning and design, geomatics, hydrotechnical, geotechnical, marine structures, construction supervision, alternative project delivery, municipal engineering, landscape architecture, environmental and more. The Transportation Project Manager, based in Edmonton, will also operate alongside our established transportation engineering practices across Alberta and British Columbia, sharing expertise and staffing as needed to thrive as Western Canada’s ACE consultant: Amazing our clients, Caring for our communities, and Empowering our people.
We are seeking an experienced leader with a solid track record focused on leading the pursuit and delivery of Transportation projects in the Edmonton area, with a focus on the City of Edmonton) including the planning, design, rehabilitation, renewal or evaluation of transportation infrastructure.
The successful candidate is a leader who possesses a versatile skill set encompassing people management and coaching, leading through influence to foster collaboration, strong business acumen including business development and financial expertise, essential for navigating the complexities of our industry. As a leader, you excel in fostering relationships and cultivating a supportive work environment that motivates team members to excel. Your adept communication and listening skills empower each member to contribute meaningfully, fostering collaboration and innovation. Through mentorship and feedback, you instill a culture of continuous learning, driving individual and team success. You demonstrate a keen understanding of market dynamics, identify and cultivate new business opportunities, build and manage long-term client relationships, collaboratively work with other leaders across the branch and possess strategic insight to drive growth. You understand financial management and analysis necessary for making informed decisions and optimizing resource allocation to achieve sustainable success.
In this role, you will work closely with the Market Sector Vice President, regional leaders, technical practice leads, and key client managers within our Transportation & Transit market sector. You will collaborate with regional colleagues to prioritize and deliver projects we pursue while ensuring right staff and resources on projects to continue to deliver remarkable results.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Directly reporting to the Branch Manager Edmonton Engineering, you will:
- Pursue and lead diverse projects: envision and manage technical, logistical, and financial aspects and oversee engineering design from proposal stage through to commissioning of the work
- Hire, retain, coach and mentor staff fostering a positive, and an engaged culture
- Facilitate continuous learning and professional development of team members
- Collaborate with offices across the region and company to support local projects
- Assist the Branch Manager in business development, workload balancing, staffing, equipment, safety, quality, and financial outcomes
- Develop new business opportunities and establish strategic relationships with key clients (including the City of Edmonton), agencies, and partners
- Represent McElhanney to the external environment including clients, businesses, and professional associations to enhance McElhanney’s positive public profile
- Serve as a senior technical leader for transportation engineering across the company as part of our Technical Service Group program
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution with a minimum of 10 years of experience.
- Registration in good standing as a Professional Engineer or Certified Engineering Technologist in Alberta or ability to obtain registration through existing inter-jurisdictional agreement

What Can We Offer You?
The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $175,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
