HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours/week, Monday to Friday
This position has the option to participate in a modified work week schedule (37.5 hours/week) Monday to Friday, with the extra hours worked as one earned day off taken once every three-week scheduled cycle.

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Coordinate and oversee the Society’s budgeting activities and work with managers in preparing and monitoring annual budgets, provides financial analysis, and forecasting to stakeholders to support organizational decisions, based on sound financial principles and accounting practices. This position is also responsible for complex account reconciliations, accurate and timely financial reporting support and provides guidance to managers on financial matters.

DUTIES:
JOB DUTIES AND TASKS:
1. PROVIDE ACCOUNTING AND BUDGET MANAGEMENT EXPERTISE:
- Provide guidance and recommendations to managers to support the overall organizational budget, forecasting process and financial reporting;
- Work with managers and staff, support divisional operating, capital and project budgeting, including working with financial requirements by ensuring compliance with external and internal controls and policies;
- Provide recommendations and support to other departments in operational decisions based on research and financial information;
- Provide guidance and recommendations to managers to resolve financial and budgeting matters;
- Maintain, interpret and assist in the development of policy and procedures to ensure they are current and aligned with best practices;
- Ensure that internal procedures and standard accounting practices are followed;
- Interpret data for the purpose of determining financial performance and resource planning;
- Prepare budgets & financial projections for Society departments, regional centre and projects;
- Work with stakeholders, evaluate the effectiveness of budgets and financial projections for the Society and activities and methods used to gather the information by developing and analyzing operational metrics;
- Analyze capital transactions, calculate and record amortization expense, including preparing capital continuity schedules, in alignment with policies and best practices;
- Act as the principal liaison on budget and financial matters between Finance and other departments
- Assist other departments in analyzing and monitoring their budgets;
- Perform GL accounts reconciliation and make adjustments to accounts (including bank, payroll, investment) if necessary;
- Prepare complex monthly allocation entries and ensure they are accurate and complete;
- Complete monthly reports and variance analysis for both internal and external users and prepare adjusting entries as required;
- Assist in completion of year end audit requirements by preparing annual audit working papers and supporting documentation;
- Ensure all revenue sources are identified and funds are recovered;
2. DESIGN, IMPLEMENT AND MAINTAIN A CENTRALIZED BUDGET REPORTING SYSTEM:
- Monitor budget status and analyse variances and report to managers
- Support and maintain financial software, including report development module, budgeting and forecasting modules, PO module and fixed assets module;
- Assist with implementation of regular upgrades and testing of financial software;
- Create and maintain various system documentation and records;
- Upload budget allocation files to financial system and reporting tools;
3. OTHER DUTIES:
- Provide backup to Payroll as necessary;
- Provide ad hoc reporting as necessary;
- Perform other duties as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Basic requirements
- Grade 12 education supplemented by relevant degree / diploma in Business Administration, Accounting or related discipline
- Completion of third level in a professional accounting program plus minimum of 3 years relevant experience in accounting, including experience in financial accounting or budget analysis and as outlined in rated requirement
- Experience working with an ERP
- Advanced understanding of data analysis and reporting of financial statements
- Advanced level in MS Excel
- OR equivalent combination of education and experience
Rated requirements
- Ability to recommend budgets and financial plans
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal contacts and to provide advice and assistance on matters relating to the work
- Ability to collect, organize, and analyze financial data, and report on significant financial information
- Knowledge of financial systems
- Experience with Sage 500 an asset
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and processes
- Ability to work with a high level of accuracy and efficiency and attention to detail
- Ability to organize workload, identify urgent work items and set priorities
- Ability to cope with a heavy workload
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines

- Knowledge of MicroStrategy or other Business Intelligence an asset
- Working knowledge of MS Office programs including Word and PowerPoint
