THE ROLE
Reporting to the Vice President, Commercial Operations, the Director, Technical Risk Solutions (TRS) has leadership-level responsibility for Market Strategy, Placement Strategy, and Technical Risk Solutions (Broking) Team Management, as well as tactical and functional execution responsibilities around supporting specific strategic client engagements.

KEY ROLE ELEMENTS:
As a member of the Leadership Team, the Director, Technical Risk Solutions also actively influences and participates in the execution of overall corporate strategy.
- Drive and execute key elements of corporate strategy, ensuring alignment with annual and three-year plans;
- Develop and oversee market relationship and placement strategies, ensuring effective execution and clear communication across the organization;
- Lead and manage the Broking Team, including team structure, hiring, and day-to-day operations;
- Ensure clients receive specialized risk, product, and market advice, negotiating optimal solutions with carriers;
- Collaborate with Senior Advisors and Service Teams to successfully place accounts using traditional and non-traditional risk transfer solutions;
- Engage directly in key client and market interactions to strengthen relationships and drive business growth;
- Influence market strategy and technical expertise across the organization to enhance overall performance and profitability.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Oversee market strategy, ensuring effective business planning, market engagement, and strong insurer relationships to maximize profitability and placement success;
- Develop and implement placement strategies that align with client risk profiles, negotiating optimal coverage solutions with market partners;
- Lead the Broking Team, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and structuring the team to support business needs and growth;
- Provide strategic guidance and mentorship to brokers, ensuring alignment with evolving market conditions, product offerings, and best practices;
- Support key client engagements by advising on complex risk placements, leading strategic discussions, and driving retention and business growth;
- Optimize renewal strategies, standardizing processes to improve efficiency and ensure timely, competitive placements;
- Act as the primary contact for Lloyd’s of London and key market partners, managing escalations and maintaining strong carrier relationships;
- Drive innovation in risk solutions, leveraging cross-border and specialty market expertise to maximize revenue opportunities;
- Engage in industry events, executive presentations, and internal working groups to enhance market influence and organizational strategy duties as required;
- Other duties as required.
WHAT WE REQUIRE:
- A minimum of 10 years’ progressively responsible experience in an Underwriting, Broking, Loss Control, Risk Management, Business Development, or Client Executive role within the Insurance Industry, including strategic plan development and execution, hiring, and management of individual team members;
- A valid Alberta Insurance Council (AIC) Level 2 insurance license (or better);
- Successful completion of one or more of the following industry or speciality designations:CIP, FCIP, CAIB, CRM, FRM, CRIS, or their equivalents;
- Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, including ability to pivot from strategic level discussions to tactical level discussions;
- Excellent organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and manage multiple workflows, and delegate work effectively to other team members;
- Strong problem-solving skills, including ability to act with an appropriate sense of urgency to make decisions, overcome obstacles, and achieve objectives within an agreed timeline;
- Software literacy, including above average to excellent working knowledge of MS Office; particularly Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel and Teams; and the ability to learn Broker Management System software as needed.
