Purpose of the Role: 

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Human Resources Business Partner, the successful candidate will provide HR consulting services to the British Columbia Lab Operations Leadership team on complex people matters and support the implementation of HR policies, programs and practices that enable managers to achieve their business objectives, build engagement and deliver LifeLabs’ People Strategy.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Provide people leaders with strategic and consultative services in assigned client groups to assist them with complex people matters
  • Provide people leaders advice and guidance to support delivery of LifeLabs people strategy
  • Assist people leaders to effectively apply HR policies and programs to ensure consistency in interpretation and application
  • Support leaders in addressing performance issues, up to and including managing terminations and assisting with calibrations and responding to general questions etc.
  • Support people leaders to identify and evaluate people impacts and risks associated with organizational change
  • Participate in implementing organizational change initiatives such as acquisitions, closures, automation, process changes etc., including supporting the development of comprehensive people plans to support the organizational change and collaborating with the Centres of Excellence as needed
  • Participate in Business and/or Operations Management Team meetings and proactively provide advice, guidance and education to support HR programs, HR policy and the People Strategy
  • Provide advice and counsel to people leaders on recruiting, developing and retaining critical talent; partner with talent acquisition and hiring leaders to support recruiting activities
  • Monitor, track and summarize HR metrics leveraging existing HR reporting and analytics as appropriate, including collecting and analyzing data for trends, and providing recommendations. Identify HR data and analysis needs of assigned client groups to HR Analytics and partner to support business leader needs
  • Partner with Disability Management Consultant, EHS Coordinator, and functional manager to support return to work and workplace accommodations
  • Lead end-to-end HR related projects in collaboration with business leaders and HR Centres of Excellence as needed
  • Work in conjunction with HR Centers of Excellence in implementing within assigned client groups corporate HR programs and processes in the area of Talent and Succession planning, performance management, employee relations, labour relations, wellness, employee engagement, and culture
  • Provide support and guidance to client groups in implementing engagement action plans
  • Research/gather and analyze data (such as feedback from employee council/union meetings, feedback regarding programs and policies, and trending on KPIs) to recommend enhancement of existing policies or development of new policies
  • Strive for continuous improvement and participate and/or lead HR projects that support overall HR goals and objectives
  • Partner with the Employee and Labour Relations team to provide coaching and guidance to internal client groups to assist in resolving full cycle employee relations/Labour relations issues (i.e. consistent interpretation and application of performance management policy and program, or CBA with unionized workforce)
  • Educate leadership teams on effective coaching, including advising on when to move into progressive discipline and requirements under CBA
  • Investigate and report on allegations of harassment, discrimination and violence, and make recommendations to management based on finding

 

What You Will Bring To The Role:

  • University degree or college diploma in Human Resources
  • 3-5+ years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a unionized setting
  • Understanding of HR governance, legislation, and regulatory environment in order to identify issues, build programs and appropriately advise managers
  • Demonstrated consultative and Problem solving skills, ability to determine root cause of complex issues and arrive at sound HR/Business solutions
  • Strong leadership, coaching, facilitation skills
  • Strong investigation and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication, negotiation, client relationships, organizational, leadership and project management skills
  • Strong communication and influencing skills to effectively communicate complex legal issues and effect change
  • Demonstrated experience in analyzing, interpreting and providing advice to management on the collective agreement
  • Ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with all stakeholders including managers, employees and union representatives
