Job Title: Supervisor, Cardiac Services
Reports to: National Manager, Cardiac Services
Purpose of the Role
The Supervisor, Cardiac Services will be accountable for the achievement of goals and targets related to safety, people, quality, and the cost-effective delivery of diagnostic services for assigned work group. They will have overall responsibility for the efficient day to day operation of assigned employee group, including planning, coordination, evaluation, and supervision of all technical and/or operational activities and management of all employees assigned to them.

Core Accountabilities
Leadership
- Attracts and retains talent, including hiring, onboarding, training, managing performance, coaching for improvement, and managing progressive discipline for direct reports in collaboration with their manager.
- Conducts performance management of their staff and ensuring accurate documentation of corrective actions taken.
- Develops and approves employee schedules, sick time, vacation, and leaves; ensures compliance with operational needs and company policies.
- Provides active leadership and development to all direct reports; ensures all individual and team accountabilities are delivered upon.
- Identifies, implements, manages, and ensures continuous improvement in quality, safety, productivity, customer service, and staff development.
- Demonstrates the ability to obtain the appropriate resources and works collaboratively with peers and support groups.
- Participates in local Leadership Teams and provides timely and appropriate communication to area staff.
- Creates a positive employee relations climate, fosters common goals and vision, in an atmosphere of collaboration and teamwork.
Operational Effectiveness
- Manages the day-to-day operation of their area and generally plans to weekly or monthly cycles.
- Supports a work environment of continuous improvement with safety as a priority.
- Implements the annual business plan including setting objectives and targets, assists in the development of strategies for integration of new business, and leads smaller special projects.
- Plans, directs, and coordinates shift operations aligned to business plan.
- Provides professional and/or technical training on procedures, laboratory testing and/or screening methods and ensures technical competence of all employees.
- Maintains technical expertise in their area of responsibility.
- Provides input into resource allocation and budget development.
- Provides financial performance of their area, identifies variances, and ensures corrective actions are implemented.
- Ensures appropriate supplies and materials are ordered, and on hand.
- Provides input into validation and verification of automation and new and/or revised operation processes.
- Ensures Business Recovery Plan (BRP) preparedness of self and team; implements BRP when required.
- Escalates operational issues in an effective manner to ensure Leadership awareness of problems impacting the operation.
- Ensures the needs of laboratory users (patients) are met and any concerns brought forward are examined and remedied as required.
Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance
- Ensures compliance with quality management system by both themselves and those working at the sites/departments they manage.
- Ensures compliance with all regulatory standards, testing protocols, and medical standards within department.
- Ensures quality measures are in place and resolves any issues.
- Ensures that all policies and procedures are current, implemented and followed.
- Ensures that all employees are qualified, trained, and competent to perform their duties.
- Leads team to understand, implement, and comply with LifeLabs Quality Systems and Privacy policies.
- Documents, coordinates, and tracks competencies.
Communication
- Manages the liaison between internal and external clients including vendors, Cardiac Readers, and Cardiology Med-Sci.
- Ensures regular communication between management and staff through face-to-face, team, and individual meetings.
Environment, Health & Safety
- Proactively models a behaviour that values Safety as the first priority in all that is done.
- Escalates all safety incidents as established by EH&S guidelines.
- Coordinates and reports on investigations, provides root cause analysis, and makes recommendations to the Manager.
- Works consistently in compliance with all LifeLabs’ health and safety policies and procedures, and in accordance with the following regulatory guidelines.
Minimum Hiring Requirements
- Minimum Education: Diploma in Cardiology Technology Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Professional Registration: Current registration with CSCT and CTABC
- Experience: Minimum of 6 years recent experience in hospital or private Cardiac Lab, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Supervisory or leadership experience is an asset.
- Regular Hours & Location of Work: 37.5 hours per week. Additional shift hours as required by the operation.
- Working Environment: Office and Laboratory environment. Occasional travel required.
