The Point of Care Coordinator will ensure the effective implementation and oversight of Point of Care testing programs. This role is critical in maintaining high standards of quality, compliance, and patient safety by coordinating training, troubleshooting equipment, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to enhance testing accuracy and efficiency. This position primarily services Long-Term Care homes across Ontario.
Status: Temporary Full-Time (4-6 month contract)
Schedule: Shift times: 8:30am to 4:30am
Additional requirements: Travel within Ontario is required at least 15% of the time - furthest location being Kapuskasing, ON
Your responsibilities will include:
- Oversee maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality checks of Point of Care Testing (POCT) equipment, maintaining records and recommending new purchases as needed
- Support with the new method calibration verification and muti instrument comparison studies
- Perform calibration verification, conduct multi-instrument comparison studies, and manage new method implementation, including validation and calibration for new methods
- Perform quality checks as needed, evaluating equipment before it is placed in service for patient testing. Investigate and recommend the purchase of new products or equipment and maintain an electronic record of all POCT equipment within LifeLabs
- Assist in developing and conducting training courses, facilitating interaction among program participants to encourage questions and discussion. Ensure all POCT staff complete current competency training and are aware of health and safety issues related to samples and equipment
- Support POC location with non-compliance issues and initiate corrective actions where appropriate
- Inventory and Supply Management; Oversee the inventory of testing supplies, ensuring that all POCT sites are adequately stocked with necessary materials and that supply levels are managed efficiently to avoid shortages
What you will bring to the role:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Point of Care testing, preferably familiar with AegisPOC software
- General Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) certification
- Ability to perform a broad range of Medical Technologist duties with expanded responsibilities in technical development and interaction with various healthcare professionals outside the laboratory
- Experience in being assigned to develop, research, and evaluate testing methods
- Experience in establishing training and competency programs for testing personnel
