A DAY AS A SPECIALIZED COUNSELLOR

The Concordia Science and Engineering YMCA Camp combines Concordia University’s expertise with the long tradition of YMCA camps to introduce young people to the fascinating world of science. We offer specialized programs in chemistry, artificial intelligence, the environment, space and much more, for young people between the ages of 5 and 17. Reporting to the camp coordination team, the specialized counsellor will plan and lead specialized activities adapted to the age of the children. They will participate in all aspects of camp, in addition to establishing and maintaining positive relationships with children, parents and the camp team

We are looking for specialized counsellors for the following positions:

  • Science and Engineering Exploration counsellor (Aged 5–12)
  • Environment Exploration counsellor (Aged 5–12)
  • STEAMpunks counsellor (Aged 13–15)
  • Space Exploration counsellor (Aged 5–12)
  • Chemistry Exploration counsellor (Aged 5–12)
  • Introduction to Artificial Intelligence counsellor (Aged 11–15)
  • Introduction to Civil and Computer Engineering counsellor (Aged 5–12)
  • Instructor – Counsellor-in-Training Program (Aged 15-17)

In this position, you will be responsible for:

  • Planning and leading fun camp activities in collaborationwith your co-counsellor;
  • Developing the creativity and skills of the various groups participating in the activities;
  • Ensuring that children are adequately supervised at all times and that the camp is always safe and clean;
  • Participating and attending workshops given by specialists.
  • Communicating regularly with parents/guardians in order to develop and maintain a positive relationship with them and the children;
  • Participating in preparatory meetings and training required for camp including weekly camp meetings and welcome phone calls;

  • Fees for first aid, CPR and rescue training (if you’re not already certified), as training is a prerequisite for the position. Please note, however, that training time is unpaid.

Candidate profile

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have experience working with children and youth.
  • Currently studying or have studied at Concordia University (an asset). Be in the process of obtaining a university or college degree in a related field (science, engineering, education, etc.).
  • Have a good command of French and English.

For your professionnal growth, the YMCA offers:

  • An hourly wage of $ 18.75
  • Variable working hours: Monday to Friday, mornings and late afternoons – 25 to 40 hours a week as needed.
  • Meetings and training: May 4 (signature of contract) and meetings on evenings and weekends during June

Duration of employment From June 23 to August 8, 2025* * Possibility to extend your contract until August 23 on other YMCA camp sites.
