A DAY AS A COORDINATOR

Reporting to the camp management team, the assistant coordinator will ensure the development, coordination, and proper functioning of the day camp program. They will supervise and support the team of counsellors and companions. They will participate in all aspects of the camp, including pre-camp preparation and training as well as administrative and daily tasks. They will establish and maintain positive relationships with children, parents/guardians, and the camp team, and ensure that all participants have a rewarding YMCA camp experience.

In this position, you will be responsible for:

  • Assisting with camp team recruitment; Coordinating, developing, and facilitating training content;
  • Preparing and leading your camp team meetings in collaboration with the assistant coordinator;
  • Planning and coordinating the schedule of camp activities, outings, and trips;
  • Managing the camp budget and equipment;
  • Ensuring that the camp is always safe and clean;
  • Ensuring the management, development and continuous improvement of the counsellor and management team;
  • Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with campers, parents/guardians, and the camp team;
  • Communicating with parents/guardians and acting as the main contact person with parents/guardians, staff, and the community.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • Be at least 20 years old.
  • Have at least three years of management experience, ideally in a camp setting.
  • Have experience in supervising and supporting staff.
  • Be in the process of obtaining a college or university degree in child development, psychology, education oe recreation (an asset).
  • Have a very good command of spoken and written French and English.
  • Be able to use MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and G Suite (Docs, Sheets, Drive).

  • Be able to support the growth of campers in activities;
  • Participate in teamwork and ensure a good work atmosphere;
  • Be responsible and adhere to YMCA ethical standards;
  • Demonstrate initiative and autonomy;
  • Guide, motivate and inspire campers.

FOR YOUR PROFESSIONAL GROWTH, THE YMCA DAY CAMPS OFFER:

  • The opportunity to work at the location of your choice: Downtown YMCA (YMCA International Language School, Cartierville YMCA, Concordia University (downtown campus), Pointe-Saint-Charles YMCA, Westmount YMCA, and Borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro (3 sites).
  • An hourly wage of $ 21.25.
  • Fees for first aid, CPR and rescue training (if you’re not already certified), as training is a prerequisite for the position. Please note, however, that training time is unpaid.
  • Variable working hours: Monday to Friday, mornings and late afternoons – 25 to 40 hours a week as needed.
  • Meetings and training to guide and support you: Preparation meeting from February to May (80 hr.), Training from March to April (96 hr.) and Field team trainings during evenings and weekends during June.

Duration of employment: From March to August 22, 2025* * With a few hours of work on administration and closing out files expected the following week Some camps may end earlier
