Parks and Trails - Seasonal Parks
Position: Seasonal Parks Operator
Salary: Grade 5, Non Union ($31.40/hr 2025 rate)
Reports to: Team Leader – Parks and Trails
Work Term: March to December
Purpose of Position:
Reporting to the Team Leader – Parks and Trails, this position is responsible for performing a variety of duties related to the maintenance and upkeep of all municipal parks, open spaces and washroom facilities including the maintenance of sports turf, tree and plant inventories, with a focus on quality customer service and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Grade 12
- College Diploma in Turf Management and/or Horticulture or Agricultural field would be an asset
- Mechanical aptitude with field experience and ability to operate relevant mechanical equipment including small tools, chainsaws, garden tractor, lawn equipment, etc.
- Experience towing a trailer and transport equipment required
- Valid class G driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract
- DZ license is an asset
Knowledge:
- Organizational skills to prioritize workloads and complete necessary tasks in a timely manner
- Customer service and communication skills to properly communicate with the public and staff members
Major Responsibilities:
- Ensure supply levels are adequately always stocked and clean
- Daily cleaning of washroom facilities (including toilets, sinks and floors)
- Maintain municipal parks and equipment
- Maintain outdoor sports fields and associated facilities including players’ benches, backstops, fence lines and bleacher areas in co-operation with scheduled users and tournaments
- Operating tractors and UTV equipment for baseball diamond maintenance as well as beach grooming
- Responsible for overseeing job site with summer students
- Maintain parks tree and plant beds
- Perform weekly parks/splash pad inspections and maintain all documentation related to these inspections
- Complete all required repairs resulting from inspections in a timely and effective manner
- Perform all other related duties as may be necessary and assigned from time to time by Team Leader or designate
Decision Making and Judgement:
- Work is performed under the general direction of the Team Leader – Parks and Trails with access to municipal policies, procedures, bylaws and regulations.
Physical Skill and Effort
- Must be able to perform heavy and light physical labour duties and use small tools and landscaping equipment as well as manual labour.
Contacts
- Interpersonal skills to liaise with leadership team and the public in a professional, friendly and co-operative manner.
Internal:
- With Team Leader to ensure work responsibilities are met.
- With Lead Hands and other staff to ensure provision of timely information and services.
External
- Occasionally handle or redirect general enquiries from the public.

Control over Work Schedule
- 40 hours per week with evening and weekend hours required between the hours of 6 am and 10 pm Monday through Sunday
