As a Junior Hydrometric Technician, you will assist in the collection, analysis, and maintenance of hydrometric data to support water resource management. Working in both field and office settings, you will help monitor water levels and flows in rivers, lakes, and other bodies of water. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for environmental science, strong technical skills, and a willingness to work in all outdoor conditions. What You’ll Do

  • Assist in the installation, maintenance, and calibration of hydrometric monitoring equipment.
  • Collect and analyze water level and flow data following standardized procedures.
  • Conduct field inspections and troubleshoot equipment issues to ensure accurate data collection.
  • Perform data entry, validation, and quality control to maintain reliable records.
  • Support hydrometric studies and reporting by compiling field notes and summarizing data.
  • Work safely in various environmental conditions, often in remote locations.
  • Collaborate with senior technicians, engineers, and other team members to improve monitoring techniques.

 

What You’ll Bring

  • A positive and motivated personality!
  • Diploma or degree in Environmental Science, Hydrology, Geography, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience or coursework in hydrology, water resource management, or field data collection is an asset.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments, sometimes in challenging weather conditions.
  • Strong technical skills, including the ability to operate and troubleshoot monitoring equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of data collection and analysis techniques.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other data management tools.
  • A valid driver’s license (in good standing) is mandatory
  • First Aid and Swift Water Safety certification (or willingness to obtain) is an asset.
  • Must be physically able to conduct field visits commensurate with project work. This may include handling and operation of equipment, travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, and outdoor site visits in all weather conditions on uneven/varying ground terrain.

Wage Range

  • $62,000-67,000, wage dependent on years of experience
