Kitchen Assistant – Full Time, Temporary Contract (8 weeks)  
Mississauga, Ontario   
$17.20/hour
Contract Dates: Summer 2025

 

Position Description:  Working with the program team, as the Kitchen Assistant, you will be responsible to assist in the coordination of and ensure daily clean-up of the kitchen.

Location: Mississauga, ON 

 

Hours of Work:  Full time, 35 hours per week. Primarily weekdays, although hours can change based on program needs.  This position is a temporary contract, ending after 8 weeks. *Position length and hours subject to approval by Service Canada. 

 

What You Will Be Doing:

 

  • Cleaning and sanitizing food preparation areas to establish proper hygiene
  • Washing and storing all cooking appliances, utensils, cutting boards, and dishes
  • Assisting Cooks by performing basic preparatory tasks, including washing and cutting produce, combining ingredients in recipes, and cleaning meat and fish
  • Sweeping and mopping kitchen floors and wiping walls
  • Receiving, labeling, and storing deliveries of produce and other items
  • Promptly responding to instructions and bringing meal ingredients from storage areas to the kitchen
  • Monitoring recipes on the stove and in the oven to ensure proper cooking
    Checking each order contains the right type and amount of side dishes 

 

What You Will Bring:  

 

  • Minimum High School diploma. Priority given to those with post-secondary education in the social sciences and/or residential experience
  • Experience in food preparation in an institutional or commercial setting is an asset
  • A valid Food Handler’s certificate
  • Commitment to promoting and demonstrating the vision, mission, and values of Indwell within the workplace and community 
  • A warm, sensitive and caring approach with a genuine interest in supporting people living with mental illness 
  • Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships and work well independently 
  • Strong listening and problem-solving skills, flexibility, organization, responsibility, and initiative 
  • A current Vulnerable Sector Police Check or willingness to obtain at one's own cost

Remuneration: $17.20/hr; hours and position length subject to approval of Service Canada – Canada Summer Jobs.
